Vessel Diverts Due To Sick Crew Member
The merchant vessel Glovis Cardinal contacted authorities, requesting medical assistance for a sick crew member, ultimately leading to a diversion to Bermuda and a successful transfer of the patient to medical care.
A Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre spokesperson said, “Wednesday 6th September 2:15PM – Email received from the merchant vessel Glovis Cardinal requesting medical assistance for a crew member. Following dialogue with US Coast Guard medical personnel regarding evacuation options, the decision is made for the vessel to divert to Bermuda in order to disembark the sick crewman.
“Meanwhile the ship’s captain agrees to monitoring of the patient’s vital signs and ongoing reporting to a USCG Flight Surgeon. Some 40 hours later on the morning of Friday Sept 8th the Glovis Cardinal arrives off of the East End of Bermuda and the patient is safely transferred by pilot boat to Ordnance Island in St. George’s Harbour and into the care of ambulance EMTs.”
