The Bermuda Monetary Authority hosted an Island Wide Clean-Up event in support of Keep Bermuda Beautiful as part of its annual Community Day.

A spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Monetary Authority [Authority or BMA] participated in its Second Annual Community Day by hosting an Island Wide Clean-Up event on Thursday, 28 September 2023. The Authority’s staff spent the day cleaning up different areas of the island in support of Keep Bermuda Beautiful [KBB], one of Bermuda’s longest standing environmental charities.

Craig Swan, the Authority’s Chief Executive Officer, stated, “The BMA’s second Annual Community Day was a success. The day saw 186 employees step up to make a lasting, beneficial impact on the island’s coastal environment. This employee-driven event aligns without ESG – Environmental, Social and Governance strategy to both further incorporate sustainability into our operations and positively affect biodiversity.

The spokesperson said, “The BMA’s Community Day sends a powerful message about the importance of environmental stewardship and protecting marine ecosystems in Bermuda. Areas covered in the community clean-up include Shelly Bay Beach, Somerset Long Bay, Ferry Reach, St. George’s, John Smiths Bay and 9 Beaches. The BMA launched the annual community day event last year as part of the Authority’s commitment to assisting nonprofits with a day dedicated to giving back, and to mark the organisation’s 50th Anniversary.

Mesheiah Crockwell, Director of Human Resources at the Bermuda Monetary Authority, shared, “We are pleased by the impressive response from staff volunteers who participated in our Second Annual Community Day coastal clean- up event on Thursday. I want to thank KBB for partnering with us again this year, and I applaud our staff for generously donating their time beautifying Bermuda’s beaches and open spaces.

The spokesperson said, “KBB’s mission is to engage individuals by encouraging greater responsibility and accountability to reduce waste and eliminate litter through action and education. The charity sees its role as assisting the people of Bermuda in working together to make a difference and create a cleaner environment for everyone.

KBB’s Executive Director, Ms Traci Burgess, said, “KBB is delighted to be working with the BMA team again this year and supporting their ESG initiatives. We appreciate the BMA’s commitment to giving back to the community and extend a special thanks for their support of KBB’s mission to reduce waste, eliminate litter and beautify the island. Individual actions to care for the environment lead to a greater collective impact, which will result in a cleaner, greener and more beautiful Bermuda for all.”
