October 10, 2022

The Bermuda Monetary Authority [BMA] participated in its first Annual Community Day event on Thursday [Oct 6] spending the day cleaning up various parts of the island in support of Keep Bermuda Beautiful [KBB].

Craig Swan, the Authority’s Chief Executive Officer, stated, “The BMA’s first Annual Community Day was a success, attracting over 150 staff members who demonstrated their commitment to making a positive impact by rolling up their sleeves and cleaning up Bermuda’s shoreline.

“We were pleased to have the opportunity to engage and work alongside KBB in this coastal clean-up aligned with our dedication and continued effort to further integrate Environmental Social Governance [ESG] and sustainability into our jurisdiction’s regulatory frameworks and daily operations.”

The spokesperson said, “This partnership event signifies the importance of its ongoing endeavour to reduce the organisation’s environmental impact and carbon footprint by cleaning up Bermuda’s coastal habitats and helping protect the island’s fragile ecosystem. Areas covered in the clean-up included 9 Beaches, Chaplin Bay, Elizabeth Beach, Jobson’s Cove, Daniel’s Head, Fort St. Catherine and more.

“The BMA’s intention to launch a yearly event for staff to give back materialised from the BMA’s 50th Anniversary community efforts. This year, the Authority formally reinstated its commitment to the charitable community with a day dedicated to giving back.”

Mesheiah Crockwell, Director of Human Resources at the Bermuda Monetary Authority, shared, “We are pleased with the overwhelming response of staff members who participated in our first Annual Community Clean-Up Day. I want to thank KBB for partnering with the BMA for our first Annual Community Day and our staff volunteers for using their time to clean our beaches and parks. I am very proud of what we accomplished on Thursday, improving our environment and community spaces in Bermuda.”

KBB’s Executive Director, Ms Traci Burgess, said, “ESG platforms have been thrust to the forefront of charitable giving for many organisations due to the global climate crisis and need for immediate action to help prevent further damage. We appreciate the BMA’s commitment to promoting KBB’s mission by contributing to this year’s coastal clean-up, which has made a tremendous impact across the island. As one of Bermuda’s leading environmental charities, KBB is excited to continue working closely with the BMA to support their ESG initiatives.”
