Eye Health Highlighted On World Sight Day
Vision Bermuda emphasized the importance of regular eye examinations on World Sight Day, aiming to raise awareness about vision impairment and blindness and promote early detection for eye health maintenance.
A spokesperson said, “Vision Bermuda, dedicated to enhancing the lives of individuals with visual impairments, is proud to celebrate World Sight Day and emphasize the critical significance of regular eye examinations for maintaining eye health and preventing avoidable vision loss.
“World Sight Day, observed on Thursday 12 October this week, serves as a global call to action to raise awareness about vision impairment and blindness. Vision Bermuda, with its unwavering commitment to creating a more inclusive and supportive world, recognizes the power of early detection in addressing eye health concerns. In light of this, Vision Bermuda urges individuals of all ages to prioritize their eye health by scheduling regular eye check-ups. Routine eye examinations not only facilitate the timely identification of potential issues but also play a pivotal role in preventing conditions that can lead to irreversible vision loss.”
Theresa McMordie, Vision Rehabilitation Professional at Vision Bermuda highlights, “Regular eye examinations are essential for maintaining good eye health. Many eye conditions develop gradually, and symptoms may not be immediately apparent. Early detection through regular eye checks can significantly enhance treatment options and outcomes.”
The spokesperson said, “Vision Bermuda further acknowledges the collective responsibility to create an inclusive society that supports individuals with visual impairments. The organization’s efforts encompass tailored vision rehabilitation programmes, access to assistive technologies, and fostering community engagement to empower those with vision challenges to lead independent lives.
“On Monday, October 9th, 2023, at 5:15pm Vision Bermuda hosted “Vision Talk” on Ocean 89 when Dr Jake Smith from The Eye Health Clinic spoke about “All things glaucoma, from early diagnosis to advanced glaucoma”. This is a part of a monthly information series which discusses topics related to vision and recordings are posted to YouTube.
“On Thursday October 12th, Lindo’s are supporting World Sight Day by holding a Tag Day at their Warwick store and a Round Up Day at their Devonshire store.
“At 12:30pm on the steps of City Hall on Thursday, October 12th, World Sight Day, Ed Christopher, Hamilton’s Town Crier will make an official declaration of the day with a Proclamation. Vision Bermuda invites everyone to come out and show their support.”
Ms Hall, Vision Bermuda’s Executive Director explained, “Vision Bermuda delivers vision rehabilitation programmes and services. Vision rehabilitation is the process of restoring functional ability and improving quality of life and independence in an individual who has lost visual function through illness or injury. The goal is to give blind and partially sighted people the tools they need to live they life they want to lead.”
