A spokesperson said, “This Saturday, 21st October, the Saltus U-13 Boys team won the CAIS Football Championship Tournament in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Eighteen schools from across Canada who, like Saltus, are accredited with the association of Canadian Accredited Independent Schools [CAIS], competed over the three-day tournament. Semi-Finals: Saltus vs St. George’s School [Vancouver]

Score: 1-0

“St. George’s School played a solid defensive game and frustrated the Saltus team with a strong tactical shape to their team. The test was in our team being patient for their opportunities. Late in the second half, the Saltus team found the breakthrough with a free kick from Conor O’Sullivan. They held on for the 1-0 victory to move Saltus onto the finals.

Finals: Saltus v.s Upper Canada College [Toronto]

Score: 4-0

“After a hard-fought semi-final in the rain, the Saltus team really wanted to finish with a win and the championship. Upper Canada College [UCC] were the top seed after the group stages so the U-13 Saltus Boys were up for a challenge. Within the first minutes of the game, Saltus put UCC on the back foot. Saltus’ front three players: Chaz Edmead, Conor Thomas, and Jace Postlethwaite applied pressure to every pass UCC made. That energy spread throughout the team and Saltus didn’t allow the number one seed an inch of playing space.

“The deadlock was broken when Conor O’Sullivan picked up a pass about 35 yards out and decisively placed the ball in the top corner of the net. A few minutes later, a shot from Jace Postlethwaite was parried by the keeper but Conor Thomas was on hand for the rebound to double the score.

“A minute before halftime, it became 3-0 when Chaz Edmead picked up the ball and drove into the box before burying his chance and from there the game. Saltus was able to get all of their players onto the pitch for the final. In the second half, Mackay Browne finished the scoring with a great team move of 10 plus passes and then he slotted into the back post.”

Julie Rousseau, Head of School shared that, “The entire Saltus community is so incredibly proud of our U-13 Boys CAIS Football Champions. We wish to express our gratitude to our dedicated coaching staff: Head Coach, John Nusum and Assistant Coach, Tim Figureido for their leadership in guiding our young team to victory. A huge congratulations to the entire team for an amazing tournament and such a tremendous win!!!”
