KLM Flight Diverts Due To Medical Emergency
KLM flight 767 — a flight enroute from Bonaire to Amsterdam — diverted to Bermuda on Sunday [Dec 31] due to a 77-year-old male passenger experiencing breathing difficulties.
A Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre spokesperson said, “Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre [BMOC] receives a call from New York Air Route Traffic Control Centre [NYARTCC] advising that KLM flight 767, an Airbus A330 enroute from Bonaire to Amsterdam, is 400 miles southeast of the island diverting to Bermuda with a 77 year old male passenger who is experiencing breathing difficulties.
“BMOC initiates the after-hours airport activation procedure while further information regarding the patient is obtained from the aircraft by NYARTCC. Airport emergency personnel confirm being on station at the airfield at 00:36 hours and the BMOC Duty Officer observes the aircraft on final approach for runway 30 at 00:44 hours.
“Aircraft lands and is led to the passenger terminal ramp where the patient and his wife de-plane to an awaiting ambulance. KLM flight 767 is re-fueled and with the passengers bags removed the aircraft resumes its flight at 03:42 hrs.”
