Jah-Nhai Perinchief opened his indoor athletics season with a second-place finish in the men’s triple jump at the Razorback Invitational in Fayetteville, Arkansas, on Saturday [January 27].

Perinchief, one of the island’s track and field stars, posted a jump of 16.51 metres.

American Brandon Green won the event with a leap of 16.62.

Perinchief opted against competing at the Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile, in October and November last year, believing it made more sense to remain in the United States and focus on dealing with a hamstring issue.

The 26-year-old enjoyed a superb first season as a professional athlete, winning bronze at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham and silver at the North American, Central American and Caribbean Athletic Association Senior Championships in 2022.
