Bermuda Welcomes Troy University Officials
Officials from Troy University recently arrived in Bermuda, where they were greeted at the airport by MP Kim Swan, who attended the university and currently serves as the the Junior Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport.
A spokesperson said, “The Troy University Delegation led by Chancellor Dr Jack Hawkins and Mrs Janice Hawkins. Dr Hawkins who has transformed Troy in his 30 + year tenure, is the longest serving Chancellor of a public university in the United States, along with his team are on island to sign an articulation agreement with the Bermuda College.”
“The Troy University delegation also consists Mr. Sohail Agboatwala, Senior Vice Chancellor for Student Services and Administration and Recruitment official Ms Bailey Corbin who has already assimilated to the Bermuda landscape and made friends.
“At a private welcome dinner hosted by Retired Justice Norma Wade Miller for the Troy University contingent who were joined by Minister of Education Hon. Diallo Rabain, President of the Senate Hon. Joan Dillas Wright and her husband Roy Wright [a former Dean of the Bermuda College], the US Consul Hon. Karen Grissette and her husband Mr. Apostolos Fourlis, Ms. Branwen Smith – King, Interim President of the Bermuda College, Mrs Betty Mroz and MP Kim Swan.
“The highlight of the evening was a presentation to Justice Norma Wade Miller by Chancellor Dr. Hawkins of a replica of the life size sculpture of American icon Rosa Parks from her museum on the Troy University, Montgomery Alabama campus.
“Under Dr Hawkins and Mrs Janice Hawkins leadership, Troy University purchased the property where Rosa Parks commenced her historic protest and transformed it into a museum in her honour and that of the contribution made toward building a fairer and just society for all. The official signing takes place at the Bermuda College on Tuesday February 6th, 2024.”
