After a hiatus caused by the pandemic, Teen Services will host the Bermuda Outstanding Teen Awards [OTA] on May 11th, and “nominations are open to senior students aged 17 to 19 who have demonstrated remarkable abilities and characteristics.”

A spokesperson said, “Teen Services is proud to announce the return of the Bermuda Outstanding Teen Awards [OTA], set to take place on May 11, 2024, following a hiatus due to the pandemic. Celebrating its 38th year, the OTA is dedicated to honoring the achievements of high school seniors from both public and private schools across the island. The 2024 edition of the OTA will also honor the winners from the 2022 edition of the OTA awards.”

With a commitment to excellence and community, the OTA recognizes teens who excel in various categories, including academics, community service, leadership, sports, and the arts. “We are thrilled to bring back the OTA to acknowledge the incredible talents and efforts of our youth,” said Wendy D. Augustus, Executive Director of Teen Services. “Their resilience and achievements, especially in these challenging times, deserve to be celebrated.”

The spokesperson said, “The awards highlight a diverse range of categories, ensuring a holistic appreciation of the students’ accomplishments. Teens can be nominated for achievements in academics, community service, leadership, perseverance, performing arts, spiritual leadership, sports, visual arts, and vocational technical arts.

“Nominations are open to senior students aged 17 to 19 who have demonstrated remarkable abilities and characteristics pertinent to the award categories. The nomination process is stringent, with specific criteria set for each category to ensure fairness and rigor in the selection process. Notably, nominees are eligible for more than one category but are limited to three, with a separate nomination form required for each.”

In the spirit of fostering growth and education, category winners will receive scholarship awards, with the overall outstanding winner being named Bermuda’s Outstanding Teen of 2024. “Our goal is to not only recognize but also to support the future endeavors of these young leaders,” added the Executive Director.

The spokesperson said, “Schools and organizations are encouraged to put forward their nominations before the deadline on March 22, 2024, at 11:59 PM. The nomination form, along with a detailed biography and headshot of the nominee, must be submitted through the provided online link.

“The OTA is more than an awards ceremony; it is a testament to the potential and positive impact of Bermuda’s youth. As the island looks forward to this celebratory event, the community is invited to join in supporting the aspirations and achievements of its young people.
