Scott Barnes Happy With Three-Peat Title

Scott Barnes achieved his goal of a “three-peat” after claiming a third straight Shifter Masters title in the Skusa Winter Series at the AMR Homestead-Miami Motorplex in Florida at the weekend.
The island’s top karting driver, competing for Ohio-based Magik Kart USA, went into rounds three and four of the competition leading the standings.
Due to the low turnout in the Shifter Masters, Barnes and the other drivers in his class merged with the Shifters, with the Bermudian finishing ninth overall on Saturday and seventh on Sunday in the finals races. He was the quickest in the Shifter Masters on both days.
“It’s cool to get the three-peat,” Barnes told Bernews. “Next year, I’ll look to make it four in a row.
The 39-year-old will remain in Florida for rounds two and three of the Roc Cup USA Florida Winter Tour, also at the AMR Homestead-Miami Motorplex this weekend. He will race in the Shifter Masters and the L206 classes.
“There will be three heat races, a pre-final and a final,” said Barnes, who will race for the Maranello team.
“You only have one shot for that trophy podium. The Shifter Masters looks strong, so it should be some tough racing.”
