Video: 5 Things Nesbeth Loves About Bermuda
LeiLanni Nesbeth, the Bermuda women’s national team footballer, has shared her top five favourite things about Bermuda, hailing the island’s warm hospitality, people, stunning scenery, and sunny weather.
Nesbeth was recently drafted by the Chicago Red Stars in the National Women’s Soccer League [NWSL], just a month after helping Florida State University [FSU] claim the NCAA Championship title.
The 22-year-old said in a video posted on her team’s Instagram account: “Five things I love about Bermuda: firstly, I have to go with the people.
“You won’t find friendlier people anywhere else in the world; everyone knows everyone, everyone’s so friendly, uses their manners, so I’ll definitely have to go with the Bermuda hospitality.
“Secondly, I’ll have to go with the scenery. Bermuda isn’t the biggest of places, but it’s one of the most beautiful places in the world; from the water to the beaches to the caves to the houses to the trees to the birds. It’s just a very beautiful place.
“Next, I have to go with the weather; obviously, a little island in the middle of nowhere, but the weather’s always nice all year round, so I have to go with that.”
The attacking midfielder also said she misses the island’s tasty cuisine and vibrant culture.
“Whenever I’m home, my family and I have a traditional fish and potato breakfast every Sunday morning, and I’m a pro at it,” she said.
“I have my stewed tomatoes, my onions, and butter, the toast, the egg, the avocado, the whole nine yards, so I’m always looking forward to that when I’m home.
“We have our fish cakes and hot cross buns. I slab a piece of cheese on there; I eat about five in one sitting. We have the best fish sandwiches in the game.
“Finally, I’ll have to go with the Bermuda culture. There are a lot of passionate people in Bermuda, whether it’s Cup Match, county cricket games, football matches, or carnival parades.
“Bermudians always show up and show out, and they have a lot of dignity and pride when it comes to our identity in our culture, so that’s always special.”
