Commonwealth Games President & VP Visit
The Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport and the Bermuda Olympic Association [BOA] welcomed the Commonwealth Games Federation President, Vice President, and overseas and local guests to the eqUIP Internship Workshop.
“The eqUIP Internship is a well-rounded programme that combines practical experience, skill development, and community involvement, all of which are important aspects for individuals looking to pursue a career in the sports industry.” said the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport Senator Owen Darrell.
“The workshop provided a platform for networking, sharing experiences, and discussing strategies to enhance the Commonwealth Games. It was an excellent opportunity to strengthen ties within the Commonwealth Games community and contribute to sports development and collaboration among member nations.”
The Bermuda Olympic Association [BOA] President, Peter Dunne, shared, “It was our pleasure to host this event in our region, bringing together a group of young individuals to develop their own skills as well as create opportunities for their Commonwealth Games Association. Seeing the group problem solve as a unit was inspiring and demonstrates that each brought their perspective and abilities to share with others. We look forward to what the group achieves as they return to their national CGA.”
The Commonwealth Games Federation President Chris Jenkins expressed, “It was a real privilege and honour to attend the first day of the eqUIP workshop in Bermuda, the first hosted in the Americas. eqUIP is an amazing project, linking education and sport, building capacity, teaching skills to young people in a work environment and building friendships across the region and Commonwealth. These interns, future leaders in the Commonwealth, share young ideas, new ways of looking at things and great enthusiasm. Programmes like this increase awareness of the role of Commonwealth Sport in the Americas and Caribbean regions. “
Minister Darrell concluded, “Thank you to the Commonwealth Games Federation and Bermuda Olympic Association [BOA]. The Bermuda Government is committed to fostering sports development and international collaboration and look forward to our athletes participating in the eqUIP Internship.”
