Kamau Leverock has announced his retirement from international cricket in the wake of Bermuda’s exit from the Super Six Stage of the ICC World Cup Challenge League Play-off in Malaysia.

The all-rounder was absent from the Bermuda team that lost to Bahrain by 30 runs [DLS Method] at the Bayuemas Oval, Pandamaran, today [March 3].

Leverock, 29, took to social media just hours later to announce he has called time on his international career.

“To the fans, supporters, and fellow team-mates, it is with mixed emotions that I announce my retirement from playing international cricket for the Bermuda men’s national team,” Leverock wrote.

“After much consideration and reflection, I feel it is the right time for me to step away from representing my country on the cricket field.

“I am grateful for the incredible experiences, memories, and friendships that I have made throughout my career.”

Leverock, a former Bermuda captain, said it had been an “honour and a privilege” to represent Bermuda and was proud of the team’s achievements.

He was named the MVP at the ICC T20 World Cup Americas Regional Qualifier in October, where Bermuda fell short of qualification after losing to Canada by 39 runs on home soil.

Both Bermuda and Canada finished the Qualifier with nine points, but Canada’s superior net run-rate secured their spot in the global tournament.

“I want to thank my coaches, team-mates, friends, family, and all the fans who have supported me over the years,” Leverock added.

“Your encouragement and belief in me have meant the world, and I will always cherish the time I spent wearing the Bermuda colours.

“While this chapter may be closing, I am excited for the new opportunities and challenges that lie ahead. I will always be a proud Bermudian and a passionate supporter of our national team.

“Thank you once again for your support, and I look forward to continuing to cheer on the fellas from the sidelines.”
