Remember When: Butterfield Wins Abu Dhabi
It has been exactly ten years since Tyler Butterfield reached his defining moment as a long-distance triathlete after winning the Abu Dhabi International Triathlon.
Butterfield completed the 223-kilometre course – 3-kilometre swim, 200km bike and 20km run – in 6h 43mn, almost a minute clear of the runner-up.
The two-times Olympian not only earned himself the prestige of winning the event, but also took home $40,000 in prize money.
Around 2,000 competitors from 68 countries took part in the race, which offered a prize purse of $200,000.
The victory was particularly poignant for Butterfield, whose wife Nikki set a course record to win the race two years earlier.
