City Postpones Spurling Hill Junction Upgrades

The City of Hamilton announced that works at the Spurling Hill junction have been postponed until July 2024.

A spokesperson said, “The City of Hamilton is advising the public that works at the Spurling Hill junction, which were scheduled to commence this weekend, have been postponed until July 2024.

“This commencement date has been changed due, in part, to contractor availability and acquirement of project materials.”

Project Manager Donald Dawkins said, “When dealing with a project of this scope, some degree of ‘project drift’ can be expected. With the school summer holidays right around the corner, it made sense to delay the project by a few months to a time when traffic will be significantly lower and road congestion minimized.”

The spokesperson said, “The Spurling Hill project involves making significant traffic light upgrades at that location which will involve extensive channeling for electrical conduit, the reconfiguration of sidewalks and the installation of a new pedestrian crossing.

“Works will take approximately five to six weeks. During that time, a comprehensive Traffic Management Plan will be in place to manage traffic flow in and out of the City and minimize disruption to motorists.

“The City appreciates the public’s patience as we work to improve our City infrastructure.”
