Bermuda To Face Cayman Islands In Test Match

The Bermuda Men’s National XVs team is set to clash with the Cayman Islands in an electrifying World Rugby International Test Match.

A spokesperson said, “Scheduled for 5:00 PM ADT on Saturday, May 4, 2024, at North Field, National Sports Centre, this game not only promises to showcase top-tier rugby action but also marks the beginning of a critical season for both teams.

“As the kick-off event in a series of internationals, this match is pivotal for Bermuda’s preparation for upcoming fixtures against Jamaica and the Bahamas, scheduled for May 18 and June 1 respectively. These games are part of the Rugby America’s North [RAN] qualification pathway, a competition spread over three years from 2024-2026. The ultimate goal for regional finalists is to compete in the ARCh competition, with the winner advancing to the APAC Americas Pool #4 for entry into the prestigious 2028 APAC.

“This weekend’s match-up is especially significant as it will feature the debut of numerous promising talents from the Bermuda squad. These new players are set to earn their first international caps, signaling a fresh and exciting phase for Bermuda rugby. The full squad will be announced later this week on Bermuda Rugby’s social media channels.

“The anticipation for this match against Cayman is at an all-time high,” said Brian Archibald, Bermuda Rugby’s Men’s XVs National Team Coach. “It’s not just our season opener; it’s the beginning of our journey towards the 2028 APAC, and every game counts. We are excited to introduce new talents who have shown incredible potential and dedication.”

“The Cayman Islands team are not to be underestimated, as they too are preparing for their pathway fixture against Mexico later this year. They have a strong team and will be a force on the field, but our players are geared up for this challenge. The stakes are going to be high and it’s going to be a fierce contest.”

“Fans are encouraged to support their teams by attending this much-anticipated event. Tickets are available now and can be purchased at the gate on the day – $20 General Admission and $50 for a Hospitality Pass. Food vendors at the event include JB WoodFired Pizza and BDA Cupcakes.
