U.S. Consul General Visits Airport Authority
New U.S. Consul General Antoinette Hurtado recently visited the Bermuda Airport Authority to “tour facilities and discuss the longstanding agreements between a number of U.S. agencies and the Airport Authority, including protocols that ensure safe and efficient travel for U.S.-bound passengers.”
A spokesperson said, “Part of the Airport Authority’s role as an air navigation services provider is to operate and maintain several Bermuda-based U.S. assets on behalf of the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration [FAA].
“The Airport Authority also hosts radar equipment for the U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration [NASA] at its Cooper’s Island site, and administers the U.S. Customs and Border Protection [CBP] agreement which provides Preclearance at the L.F. Wade International Airport. The U.S. Consul General was provided a tour of Air Traffic Control, Air Traffic Engineering, and Bermuda Weather Service sections within the Airport Authority.”
“Meeting with the Bermuda Airport Authority and observing its facilities and operations reinforced our close cooperation with Bermuda on security, aviation, and technology issues,” said U.S. Consul General Hurtado. “I look forward to continuing and strengthening that cooperation.”
“The Airport Authority was happy to welcome U.S. Consul General Hurtado,“ said BAA CEO Lester Nelson. “We have enjoyed a long and mutually beneficial relationship with the U.S. Consulate and U.S. agencies.”
