Dr Ty-Ron Douglas Named COSA Award Winner
Dr. Ty-Ron Douglas and the Cal Athletics DEIBJ Office have been selected as a Chancellor’s Outstanding Staff Award [COSA] winner for the Champions of Justice Black History Month event, with Dr. Douglas’ department and office also co-hosting the Tommie Smith Youth Track Meet at Edwards Stadium on the campus of the University of California, Berkeley this past weekend.
A spokesperson said, “Dr. Ty-Ron Douglas and the Cal Athletics DEIBJ Office have been selected as a Chancellor’s Outstanding Staff Award winner for the Champions of Justice Black History Month event that Douglas led and moderated to honor Dr. John Carlos, Dr. Harry Edwards, and Dr. Tommie Smith.”
UC Berkeley Chancellor Carol T. Christ said, “The COSA award acknowledges staff members whose thoughtfulness, initiative, and generosity have led to a significant positive impact within the Berkeley community. The award, given to individuals and teams for projects undertaken within the last three years, is among our campus’ highest honors.”
A spokesperson said, “The Champions of Justice event received significant media coverage from Bay Area news outlets.
“Dr. Douglas also co-wrote [with Dr. Wayne Bucknor] and executive produced a song/video that was presented to the three Civil Rights icons at the event. The song, entitled ‘Baton in Hand,’ is now available on Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube
“News recaps include Pac 12, CBS News, Fox KTVU, and NBC Bay Area.
“This past weekend, Cal Athletics and Dr. Douglas’ Office co-hosted Dr. Tommie Smith for the Tommie Smith Youth Track Meet at Edwards Stadium on the campus of the University of California, Berkeley. Over 1200 youth registered for this two-day meet.”
