Reggie Lambe has reflected on his match-winning heroics after scoring the winner in Braintree Town’s 4-3 victory over Worthing in the Vanarama National League South play-off final, revealing he dreamt about the moment the night before.

Lambe stunned Worthing in the second half of extra time, planting a diving header into the bottom corner to secure his side’s promotion to the National League at the Sussex Transport Community Stadium yesterday [May 6].

The Bermuda midfielder, who came on as a 95th-minute substitute with the score tied at 3-3, told Bernews: “The emotions were overwhelming.

“Coming on [as a substitute] and grabbing the winner in the play-off final was unbelievable.

“I had a dream the night before that I scored the winning goal, which is crazy.

“I normally visualise the game before I play, but my dream literally became a reality.

“This is the number one moment in my career because it’s just happened. I still can’t believe it; I haven’t been able to process it yet.”

The 33-year-old, who joined Braintree from Isthmian League North Division side AFC Sudbury last summer, made 42 appearances in all competitions this term, scoring two goals.

He said he hopes to remain at the Essex outfit and help them step up to the fifth tier of English football.

“I had a personal goal of getting Braintree into the National League and then into the Football League,” he said.

“Hopefully, I can stay fit and carry it on next season.”

Lambe said he could miss Bermuda’s World Cup qualifiers against Antigua and Barbuda and Honduras next month as the two matches clash with his Uefa A Licence coaching course.

“I’m still available for Bermuda, but I have other commitments this summer,” the island’s most-capped international added.

“I have to attend a coaching course, and the dates coincide with those matches. It’s a sacrifice that will pay off in the long run.”
