Rick Wright’s Greenville Win On Penalties
Rick Wright’s Greenville Triumph defeated Spokane Velocity on penalties in the third match of the USL Jägermeister Cup yesterday [May 25].
The match ended goalless after regulation time, with Greenville goalkeeper Gunther Rankenburg emerging as their hero after saving Derek Waldeck’s penalty in the sixth round of the shootout.
Greenville are top of the East Pod of the Cup after three of eight group games.
A former Saltus Grammar School student, Wright made appearances for the Bermuda and United States national teams.
He was appointed head coach of Greenville at the start of the season, having previously served as assistant coach for several years.
Greenville return to league action at home to Chattanooga Red Wolves next Sunday [June 2].
