PLP Support UN Ceasefire Resolution
Noting that while “Bermuda’s foreign policy is dictated by the United Kingdom,” the PLP believe it is “important to let the people of Bermuda know where we stand as an organisation,” and said their Central Committee “has voted to support United Nations resolution 2728, calling for an immediate cease-fire in Gaza.”
A statement from the party said, “The Bermuda Progressive Labour Party [PLP] Central Committee has voted to support United Nations resolution 2728, calling for an immediate cease-fire in Gaza. In solidarity with hundreds of countries and thousands of organisations worldwide, the PLP calls for an end to the violence and suffering in the region. We support immediate action to alleviate the humanitarian crisis and bring peace to the region.”
“The Bermuda Progressive Labour Party stands firmly with the global community in advocating for peace and the protection of human rights,” said PLP Chair Dawn Simmons. “The ongoing conflict in Gaza has caused significant hardship, and it is imperative that the world works towards a swift and just resolution.”
“As a British colony and under Bermuda’s existing constitution, we recognise that Bermuda’s foreign policy is dictated by the United Kingdom. But as a Party, we believed it was important to let the people of Bermuda know where we stand as an organisation, and we will continue to advocate for constitutional change in Bermuda so that our island’s foreign policy is dictated by Bermudians, not the UK,” Chair Simmons concluded.
Quote” we will continue to advocate for constitutional change in Bermuda so that our island’s foreign policy is dictated by Bermudians, not the UK”.
This has to be the funniest statement for a long time. Can’t run Bermuda, but wants to be the mouse that roared.
By the way, the PLP only received votes of around 30% of registered voters in the last election, (and 25% of the population) so you do not speak for the majority by any stretch of the imagination.
The PLP Government has only been in charge for 19 of the past 26 years. Constitutional change takes time.
To be fair, they have been working on the bus schedule.
And there was an asphalt shortage for a few weeks, which apparently diverted significant management resources.
It’s more funny to believe that the obaUBpeee will ever win again. By the way your little statement about the ruling government speaks more badly about the opposition specially if they didn’t win before and can’t win again LOL.
I think you mean the UBPLP.
After all, it is the PLP that has 2 former UBP leaders amongst its ranks (Kim Swan and Wayne Furbert), not the OBA.
I think you mean all the black voters and supporters left the obaUBPeeee with a 30-6. Now run along and beg some new surrogates to help you lose again.
Cute….the plp support a ceasefire resolution…how about one in Bda…wanna be politicians …hoping their faithful voter base will think they are some global power.lets fill a pot hole or two …save a life or two on our “world Class beaches” work on their share ride vs taxis or overspending on a gaming industry that doesnt exist
plp what a pathetic group of wanna be politicians …you do a great job getting the flock out to vote but its simply the Blind leading the Blind
Cannot clean your own back yard up but trying to make a statement in a dispute that has been going on since biblical times. Shake my head. Typical statement from a PLP nobody. And yes Bermuda is a British colony, and any foreign policy comes from Britain.
Thank god these numpties don’t get to make any major decisions or run a country…oh wait…what was that oft chanted number refrain again? Thanks. Please go away for good.
Bermuda needs to mind it own business as talk is cheep and we should not get involved and waving the white flag in other peoples wars as we do not need a target on our back.
After being repeatedly attacked over the years from all sides ,this for them this was the last straw, they have every right to defend them selves with the hope that they can put an end to terrorism once and for all
Note to PLP -there already was a ceasefire in place on October 7, 2023. One side broke that.
If there are any gays out there that voted for the PLP they must be confused individuals because the PLP cherry pick their Human Rights support! Just remember the PLP went to court to strip human rights on this island!!
We remember.
The hypocrisy of the plp and their followers is pathetic.
There is a race war going on in this beautiful island of ours.
Put aside your sticks and stones and puppy dogs bones.
Why do we show compation for other nations and not for own nation.
Have you any idea how lucky we all are.
Show the world your best side, or is it our good side.
Where does discontent put Bermuda on the world stage, most certainly not in a very good place.
This useless self serving historical practice which pits brother against brother.
May I ask what is to be gained as there is no comfortable place here for hatred and discontent.
Here are some words of wisdom
” We are what we want to be”
” We are what we strive to be”
” We are what we are going to be .”
“The more you have the more you have to look after”.
Money and Possesions.
Too much or too little
The day I got married , we were broke but not busted, I told my father at the reception ” We have no money left”.
my Father said “Good, now you have got nothing to fight over”.
Money a things have no value if you have no love in you heart.
We all need one another to be on the same team as devised we are doomed to failure .
I agree with you, Packman. And it seems our lives have gone along similar lines. I also had no more than a few hundred dollars following my wedding. But we manged to work hard, live modestly, raise children and live a decent life.
On the brighter side, the “conflict” in Bermuda is still a conflict of words and ideas, not a civil war. For that we should all be thankful.

Israel, Australia, Japan, UK, US, others have officially designated Hamas a terrorist organization – European Union has also designated Hamas a terrorist group – October 13, 2023
Apart from the U.S., the U.K., Israel, Australia, Japan and the European Union are among other countries and regional blocs that have officially designated Hamas as a terrorist organization.
>>> U.K. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said, “The people who support Hamas are fully responsible for this appalling attack. They are not militants. They are not freedom fighters. They are terrorists.” Sunak joined a vigil with local communities at Finchley United Synagogue in London. <<<
Australian Minister for Foreign Affairs Penny Wong gave a speech on Oct. 11 with regard to the attacks on Israel.
"Australia stands against terrorism. We stand in solidarity with Israel. We unequivocally condemn the attack by Hamas: Indiscriminate rocket fire, the targeting of civilians and the taking of hostages. I reiterate Israel’s right to defend itself," she said in her speech via the minister for foreign affairs website.
