A spokesperson said, “Conyers is delighted to announce the recipients of its 2024 Legal Education Awards. The annual scholarship recognises outstanding students for their academic achievement, leadership, and commitment to the legal profession. This year the firm awarded $70,000 in funding to five Bermudian students.

“Meleina Brock was presented with the Conyers Legal Scholarship. Meleina is pursuing a Bachelor of Laws [Hons] and will complete her final year at City University of London in the fall. The scholarship provides $30,000 per year for up to three years.

“Owen Figureido received a Legal Award of $15,000. Owen is beginning his first year of a Bachelor of Laws at the University of Reading in September.

“Kayla Caldwell and Taylor Crichlow each received a bursary of $10,000. Kayla completed her LLB with Honours and is set to begin a LLM in Legal Practice at the University of Law, Liverpool. Taylor is entering the final year of her undergraduate Law programme at the University of Essex.

“Imani Bell received a bursary of $5,000. The recent Bermuda High School graduate anticipates to start her first year studying for a Bachelor of Laws at the University of Leicester.”

Sophia Greaves, Director and Chairperson for the selection committee, said, “Conyers is incredibly proud to support this talented group of individuals. The students’ dedication to their studies and passion for law are inspiring. Their potential to positively impact the legal profession aligns perfectly with the firm’s mission and values. We look forward to seeing their contributions to the legal profession.”

The spokesperson said, “Conyers is committed to nurturing and investing in the education of future legal professionals in Bermuda. The Legal Education Awards has exemplified the firm’s commitment to fostering legal talent within the community by donating more than $2 million to aspiring lawyers in Bermuda. All recipients demonstrate the values and dedication to legal education that the Conyers holds dear.

“Beyond the Legal Education Awards, Conyers actively promotes professional development through various student programmes in Bermuda. These comprehensive offerings include the Summer Law and Pupillage programmes, where students receive mentorship from our lawyers, engage with real client projects, and immerse themselves in the daily operations of the firm.

“The Gap Year Programme provides an opportunity for students in a gap year between high school and university or those currently enrolled in an undergraduate program to gain practical experience across various firm departments, such as compliance, finance, trust or corporate services. Additionally, the Smart Start programme was introduced last year and provides a blend of work experience and mentoring to high school students who might not otherwise have the opportunity to pursue a legal career.

“The firm also hosts regular networking and open house events, allowing students to explore the legal profession and potential career paths in law.”
