The Mirrors Programme celebrated its outstanding volunteers and the artistic talents of Bermuda’s youth at the Mirrors Volunteer Appreciation Awards Ceremony and the opening of the 8th Annual Art and Digital Competition exhibit on July 5, 2024.
A spokesperson said, “Senator Lindsay Simmons was joined by Assistant Director of Child & Family Services, Kennette Robinson, and Joshua Wilson, Co-chair of the Mirrors Alumni and Friends Association [MAFA] in acknowledging the volunteers.
Senator Simmons celebrated the contributions of the volunteers and the community’s role in supporting Bermuda’s young people stating, “It’s because of your willingness to give back to the community that the lives of our young people have been greatly impacted. As Helen Keller once said, ‘Alone, we can do so little; together, we can do so much.’ Thank you for giving countless hours so this impact can continue. Your efforts are deeply appreciated.”
The spokesperson said, “This year marked the introduction of the World Summit Junior Forum and the Educators Youth Workers Workshop, where volunteers collaborated with international partners, transforming perspectives and fostering growth among the youth. Friday evening’s ceremony highlighted the efforts and dedication of the volunteers at the heart of these initiatives.
“The 2023/24 Outstanding Volunteers of the Year recognized at the ceremony were:
- Angelita Outerbridge, CedarBridge Academy, Peer Forward Volunteer
- John Perinchief, Mirrors Alumni and Friends Association Charity Volunteer
- Rosheena Masters, Mirrors Programme Volunteer
The evening also saw the opening of the 8th Annual Art and Digital Competition with an array of artwork by some of Bermuda’s talented artists. Senator Simmons encouraged all attendees to explore the exhibition, stating, “We have an incredible exhibition of artwork created by our young people. I encourage you to take a moment to walk through the gallery and celebrate Bermuda’s talent.”
The spokesperson said, “The Art Exhibition is open for People’s Choice Award voting in the Rick Faries Gallery at Masterworks, from July 8th to July 31st, 2024. The gallery is open Monday to Friday, 10 am to 4 pm. Special thanks were extended to the MAFA Board, Burrows & Lightbourne, and Centennial Bermuda for their generous contributions which were instrumental in making the event a success.”
Mirrors Program Manager, Kim Jackson stated, “These partnerships highlight the vital role that community and business collaborations play in nurturing Bermuda’s youth, providing a robust support system that empowers them to achieve their full potential. We thank our volunteers and each of our partners for their continued support. We welcome the public to come out and visit the art exhibition and cast their votes for their favorite pieces. This event is not just a celebration of artistic talent but also a testament to the community’s commitment to fostering a brighter future for Bermuda’s youth.”
