Tariq Simons Named MTM Academy Director
Manders Tennis Management (MTM) has announced the appointment of Tariq Simons as the new academy director at the WER Joell Tennis Stadium.
The appointment marks a new chapter in Simons’ career and the continued growth of MTM.
As academy director, Simons will oversee the development of junior and adult programmes, ensuring that the values and vision of MTM are upheld.
Gavin Manders, the founder of MTM, believes Simons’ leadership will inspire the next generation of tennis players in Bermuda.
“This milestone in Simons’ career is a testament to his dedication, passion, and the support of the MTM community,” Manders said.
“Tariq’s journey with MTM embodies the organisation’s mission to foster talent and create career pathways within tennis.
“Starting as an academy player, Tariq demonstrated exceptional skill and determination, quickly rising through the ranks.
“His commitment to the sport and his natural leadership abilities led him to become an academy mentor, where he inspired younger players with his work ethic and passion.”
Recognising his potential, MTM has provided Simons with opportunities to grow further.
He transitioned to an assistant coach role, where he honed his coaching skills and deepened his understanding of player development.
His dedication on the court paid off as he became Bermuda’s No-1 ranked player, showcasing his prowess on both national and international stages.
As an official MTM coach, Simons has run small programmes and instilled the values of hard work, discipline, and sportsmanship in his students.
“Gavin Manders, Jovan Whitter and the entire MTM family have been instrumental in my growth as a player and a coach,” Simons said.
“This opportunity to lead the academy is a dream come true, and I am excited to give back to the community that has supported me throughout my journey.”
Simons will lead all MTM programmes at the WER Joell Tennis Stadium, which has been home to MTM for the past year.
Over the last six months, Simons has completed his director training at the facility, preparing him to take on his new role.
Manders added: “This strategic move is part of MTM’s continued effort to foster leadership and excellence within its ranks.
“Tariq’s journey from player to mentor, assistant coach, and now academy director is a testament to the career pathway approach that MTM champions.”
MTM has also announced a new partnership with Nspire Bermuda.
One of Nspire Bermuda’s main objectives is to create educational and career pathways within the sport, giving the next generation the mentorship, resources, and financial assistance needed to become tennis professionals.
The partnership between MTM and Nspire Bermuda will extend this approach into schools, using tennis not only as a positive outlet but also to show young athletes the career and educational opportunities available to them.
“Nspire Bermuda and MTM are committed to developing the next generation of sports professionals,” said Gavin Manders, who is also the founder of the Nspire Bermuda Charity.
“Tariq’s journey is a shining example of what can be achieved with dedication, support, and a clear pathway.
“We are incredibly proud of him and look forward to seeing him inspire many more young athletes.”
