The Ministry of Youth, Social Development, and Seniors said they “would like to inform individuals and business owners of spaces available for the Women’s Empowerment Principles [WEPs] webinar training, with sessions starting today, Tuesday, July 9th through Thursday, July 11th.”

A Government spokesperson said, “The Ministry of Youth, Social Development and Seniors, in partnership with the Bermuda Economic Development Corporation [BEDC] and UN Women, as part of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal [SDG] Fund Joint Buy Back Equal Programme ‘Building Back Equal through Innovative Financing for Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment’, are continuing their work in gender equality and women’s entrepreneurship in Bermuda through a WEPs training webinar, facilitated by Imani Duncan-Price, Consultant for the UN Women Multi-Country Office.

“WEPs are a set of guidelines established by UN Women and UN Global Compact to promote gender equality and women’s empowerment in the workplace, marketplace, and community, which provides a framework to guide all businesses, regardless of size, sector, or geography on how to empower women in these spaces.

“Equality Means Business! The WEPs underpin the business case for corporate action to promote gender equality and are informed by real-life business practices and input gathered from successful companies across the globe. This training opportunity is being offered to:

  • Financial Institutions and Service Providers
  • Companies [private, public, state-owned] with a particular focus on Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises [MSMEs] as well as large companies in key value chains
  • Cooperatives of any size and industry
  • Industry Associations and Chambers of Commerce
  • Business Support Organizations that work with entrepreneurs
  • Government Partners working on promoting gender equality and entrepreneurship.

“The training sessions have been designed by sector/industry.”

The Minister of Youth, Social Development and Seniors Tinée Furbert stated, “The WEPS training program is a transformative initiative that empowers our businesses and communities to drive performance, attract and retain top talent, and foster a more inclusive economy for sustained growth. By partnering with BEDC, UN Women, and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal Fund’s Joint Buy Back Equal Programme, we are committed to advancing gender equality and creating opportunities for all. I encourage all business professionals and community workers to register for the virtual training session on Women’s Empowerment Principles [WEPS] 101 and the Gender Gap Analysis Tool for Business Growth in Bermuda.
