BMHF To Host ‘Steps To Mental Wellness’ Walk

The Bermuda Mental Health Foundation announced the “Steps to Mental Wellness” 5K Walk on October 6, 2024, to raise awareness for mental health.

A spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Mental Health Foundation [BMHF], in partnership with CG and their Zest Wellness Programme, is thrilled to announce the upcoming “Steps to Mental Wellness” 5K Walk, set for Sunday, 6 October 2024, at the Botanical Gardens from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. This pivotal event aims to elevate awareness and advocate for mental health in a vibrant and engaging atmosphere.

Event Details:

  • Date: Sunday, 6 October 2024
  • Time: 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
  • Location: Botanical Gardens, Camden House Lawn
  • Registration Details: Visit www.bmhf.bm to register. Registration fee is $25.00 per participant.

“Participants of all ages are invited to join the morning walk, which is designed not only as a physical activity but as a movement towards fostering a supportive community for mental wellness. The route offers a scenic experience starting and ending at the historic Camden House, with water stations and rest stops strategically placed to provide hydration and mental health educational materials. The first 100 sign-ups will receive a free t-shirt powered by CG and Zest Wellness.”

James Macdonald, Chairman of BMHF, states, “As you may be aware, BMHF has been supporting individuals with mental illness for almost 30 years through advocacy and the provision of housing. This event is crucial to our mission of highlighting the importance of mental health in Bermuda. We are dedicated to using community activities to enhance understanding and support for mental health issues.”

The ‘Steps to Mental Wellness’ 5K Walk, supported by our Zest Wellness programme, is a vital part of our mission to foster a healthier community. By coming together for this event and kicking off World Mental Health Month, we are taking significant steps towards raising awareness and supporting mental wellness for all.”

The spokesperson said, “The walk will feature:

  • Warm-up session powered by Shamana Circle
  • Interactive wellness activities
  • Information booths by local health organisations
  • Special appearances by PowerGirl and DJ Flava

Employer Fundraising Challenge:

“This year also sees the introduction of an Employer Fundraising Challenge, aiming to engage local businesses in our cause with competitive spirit and community involvement. Details and registration for the challenge can be found here.

Fundraising Goals:

“The goal of the fundraiser is to raise $50,000 to support our communal housing programme. To date, BMHF has acquired 4 homes that accommodate 25 people. It is our goal to accommodate another 25 people, and the Foundation needs the public’s help to do so. Providing adequate housing for one of the island’s most vulnerable populations has been a core part of BMHF’s mission.

About the Route:

“The 5K route flows through the Botanical Gardens, featuring multiple turns and checkpoints, ensuring a comprehensive tour of the beautiful landscape and returning to Camden House to conclude the walk. Begin at Camden House and proceed through the main path of the Botanical Gardens to Berry Hill. Make a right and walk to Tee Street, then make a left to Middle Road, then make a right on Watlington Road and a right onto Brighton Hill Road. Take a right turn onto South Shore Road and continue straight. Continue around the perimeter of the Botanical Gardens, returning to the starting point at Camden House to complete the route.
