New Electric Van For Bermuda Cancer Centre
Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre said they are thrilled to “unveil its latest addition: the brand-new electric van, generously supported by BF&M and Aspen.”
A spokesperson said, “This exciting development represents another stride forward for our charity, reinforcing our commitment to a more sustainable and cost-conscious future. As a specialised healthcare provider and a Bermuda registered charity #070, we recognise both the significant threat posed by climate change to our community and our responsibility to take action.
“After three years of overcoming challenges and collaborating with several importers, the Centre’s electric van is finally hitting the road. Our partnership with Zeroe World and their exceptional team made the process seamless. Heartfelt thanks to BF&M and Aspen for funding this vital addition, allowing us to effortlessly deliver our cancer prevention programmes.”
Abigail Clifford, Group President and CEO of BF&M, shared, “As a longstanding partner of the Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre, we’re proud to continue our support with this donation. This contribution helps them adopt greener transportation, reducing carbon emissions and promoting sustainability on Bermuda’s roads. By supporting the Centre’s essential preventative programs, we are enhancing their ability to deliver crucial health services to our community. Our partnership highlights BF&M’s dedication to advancing cancer treatment and prevention.”
The spokesperson said, “Recent reports from the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel continue to emphasise the threats climate change poses to human health. Leading organisations like the World Health Organisation, British Medical Association, Royal College of Nursing, and Royal College of Physicians view climate change as the greatest health challenge of the 21st century.”
“At Aspen, we believe we can make greater impact by taking thoughtful actions today that can play a meaningful part in building a more sustainable tomorrow. That is why we are so proud to support the Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre and their vision of raising awareness of the prevention, detection and treatment of cancer,” stated Adam Barboza, VP of Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainability at Aspen Insurance Group. “The Centre does amazing work every day in educating our local community, and we are pleased to further facilitate their services and programs through a more sustainable mode of transportation.”
The spokesperson said, “The electric van is just the beginning of the Centre’s journey toward a greener future. We’re exploring other initiatives, both large and small, including solar energy adoption. Although we’ve encountered a roadblock due to the required Roof Audit and current funding limitations, we remain committed to sustainability. Our staff is also moving to embrace eco-friendly practices, such as eliminating disposable paper and plastic cups in favour of reusable water bottles and glasses.
“In addition to the electric van, we’re exploring other avenues:
- Paperlite Working: Reducing paper usage across our operations.
- Reusable Cutlery and Drinkware: Encouraging staff to use their own utensils and cups.
- Air Filtration: Ensuring excellent indoor air quality.
- Outdoor Seating Areas: Creating green spaces for patients and staff.
- Streamlined Patient Journeys: Specialists are brought to the Centre, minimising multiple appointments and the need to drive around the island.
- Motion-Control Lighting: Enhancing patient and staff experiences.
“Together, we’re driving positive change—one kilometre at a time.”
Oh no! Not “we recognise both the significant threat posed by climate change to our community and our responsibility to take action.” Clueless is the most polite word that I can say to anyone who says such things.
But hey, please define “climate change.” Take a stab at it because not one person in Government knows the correct answer. Not one person in Bermuda who says “climate change” can correctly define the phrase.
“Leading organisations like the World Health Organisation, British Medical Association, Royal College of Nursing, and Royal College of Physicians view climate change as the greatest health challenge of the 21st century.”
History shows that such organizations are the biggest threat to humanity. Is that the same World Health Organisation (WHO) that said covid was not transmittable to humans? How did that work out? Using known flawed models, the British Medical Association, Royal College of Nursing, and Royal College of Physicians all bungled governments’ reactions to covid. The same organizations that pushed a mandatory vaccine that was not a vaccine as we knew the meaning of the word, so they redefined the word to fit the narrative. Ask Mr. Big how his “vaccine” shots worked out – he caught covid two times, that we know of. How many vaccinated people in Bermuda are out today on medical leave or working from home have covid?
BTW, EVs and not even close to being “green.” The environmental damage caused by mining rare earths is horrific along with the vast amounts of CO2 produced by mining, transporting raw materials, manufacturing, and distributing EVs.
And let’s not forget the thousands and thousands of underage children in Africa mining rare earths under horrible working conditions to feed the demand for EV batteries. But hey, you feel good because you are saving the planet. Let’s not forget the particulate matter coming off of EV tires that wear down faster than regular tires is unhealthy to breathe. Let’s not forget the damage to our already poor roads caused by the heavier EVs and the MILLIONS of dollars it will cost to upgrade just half of our roads to handle the weight of EVs. Let’s not forget that the Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service is not trained nor equipped to put out an EV fire. How much will the training and equipment cost? When will the training begin? How much will the specialized equipment cost?
EVs are so great that not one government official will purchase an EV with their own money. The head of a major environmental group pushing green in Bermuda does not drive an EV.
As a reminder, the earth is doing just fine.
Good luck with that waste of money!
