Bermuda College and the University of Memphis are hosting a joint information session for students and families interested in engineering education pathways.

A spokesperson said, “Potential students and their parents are being invited to attend an information session about engineering study options through Bermuda College and the University of Memphis.

“The joint session will be held on April 30 at 6pm at the Butterfield & Vallis Conference Centre at Bermuda College. It is designed to help students and families explore engineering education pathways and related career opportunities.

“Representatives from both institutions will attend in person and virtually to answer questions about admissions, credit transfer and degree completion.

“The event will highlight the articulation agreement between Bermuda College and the University of Memphis’ Herff College of Engineering, which creates a structured pathway for students to move from an Associate of Science degree into undergraduate engineering programmes in the United States.

“Under the agreement, eligible Bermuda College graduates can transfer credits into Bachelor of Science programmes in biomedical, civil, electrical, computer and mechanical engineering, as well as engineering technology at Herff College of Engineering.

“Depending on the programme, students may complete their bachelor’s degrees within two to three years after transfer. The pathway offers a cost-effective option for students and families by reducing both the time and expense involved in earning an engineering degree while maintaining academic quality and rigour.

“Engineering skills are needed across many parts of daily life. In Bermuda, that includes work connected to the systems people rely on every day, from electricity and water to roads, buildings and communications networks, according to Dr Ali Arouzi, Vice President of Academic Affairs at Bermuda College.

“The session is intended to help families understand how an engineering qualification can lead to a wide range of careers, while also showing how students can begin that journey at Bermuda College before transferring overseas.”

Dr Arouzi added, “This partnership expands opportunities for Bermuda College students to pursue internationally recognised engineering degrees.

“The pathway will expand students’ opportunities through a clear, affordable route while deepening connections and building enduring partnerships with industry.”

The spokesperson said, “Dr Arouzi said the agreement also supported workforce development by helping to address skills gaps in engineering and technical sectors.

“Okenwa Okoli, Dean and Professor at the Herff College of Engineering, said the agreement would create a clear, high-quality route for Bermuda College students as they continue their engineering education.”

Dr Okoli added, “This initiative represents more than a transfer pathway. It is a critical link between earning a degree and securing employment.

“This isn’t just a transfer opportunity, it’s your gateway to a career. Through our partnership with Bermuda College, we’re providing you with the skills, hands-on experience, and opportunities to succeed in engineering whether in Bermuda or beyond.

“Together, we’re building a stronger future for Bermuda’s workforce, while inviting you into our supportive Memphis community.”

The spokesperson said, “Bermuda College signed the articulation agreement with the University of Memphis last year. It is the College’s most comprehensive articulation agreement in engineering and one of 41 overseas agreements designed to create transfer pathways for Bermudian students.

“Additional information is available at www.college.bm and memphis.edu/engineering. To register for the information session, contact csmith@college.bm. Light refreshments will be served.”
