‘Therapeutic Speed Dating’ Event On October 10
A “Therapeutic Speed Dating” event will be held on October 10th, with the organisers saying “the format is unique—akin to speed dating—but instead of romantic matches, participants will connect with different therapists, ask questions, and learn about various approaches to mental health care.”
A spokesperson said, “Mental health in Bermuda is about to get a major spotlight with an innovative and first-of-its-kind event—Therapeutic Speed Dating—taking place on October 10th from 5:30-7:30pm at the Sammy Wilson Community Centre in Hamilton. Spearheaded by Dr. Jana Outerbridge of Mayvera and Ms. Chardonae Rawlins of Simply Bloom, two of Bermuda’s most passionate and knowledgeable mental health professionals, this initiative aims to raise awareness about the importance of mental health in a holistic, accessible way.
“At its core, the event is designed to demystify the mental health profession and offer participants a chance to directly engage with therapists and counselors in a relaxed, conversational setting. The format is unique—akin to speed dating—but instead of romantic matches, participants will connect with different therapists, ask questions, and learn about various approaches to mental health care. The event will culminate in a panel discussion featuring some of Bermuda’s leading mental health experts, where attendees can deepen their understanding of mental health practices.
A New Definition of Being “PsychedOut”
“At the heart of this initiative is the term PsychedOut, a phrase that resonates deeply within Bermudian culture and has various interpretations. Traditionally, “psyched out” might have been used to refer to being overwhelmed or mentally stressed. However, Dr. Outerbridge and Ms. Rawlins are working to redefine the term, using it to represent a positive re-education— expanding one’s knowledge, belief, and understanding of mental health in a way that empowers rather than overwhelms.”
“Our goal is to show that you can be PsychedOut in a healthy and productive way,” says Dr. Outerbridge. “It’s about tapping into your mental strength, gaining insight, and understanding that mental health care is not something to fear but something that can provide healing and strength.”
Collaboration for Healing
The spokesperson said, “This event is just the beginning of a broader movement in Bermuda to improve mental health literacy and access. By combining their diverse expertise, Dr. Outerbridge and Ms. Rawlins are collaborating with a range of mental health professionals to bring healing and empowerment to Bermuda’s community. The duo has worked to ensure that the event reflects a holistic approach to mental health, with services and supports aimed at children, adults, and even workplace environments.”
“We want to show Bermuda that mental health services are available and that there is a wealth of tools, workshops, and counseling services that can support individuals at every stage of life,” explains Ms. Rawlins. “From children to adults, and even in professional settings, mental health matters. It’s crucial for overall well being.”
A Movement for the Future
The spokesperson said, “Therapeutic Speed Dating is just the beginning. Dr. Outerbridge and Ms. Rawlins aim to expand the reach of this initiative with monthly events, workshops, webinars, and support groups. A calendar of events will be released to the public, offering ongoing opportunities for Bermudians to engage with mental health resources in different settings.”
“We are building something for the long-term,” says Dr. Outerbridge. “This is the first of its kind in Bermuda, and we want to create a sustained movement that reaches all corners of the island. Mental health is not a one-time conversation. It’s something we must continually engage with and prioritize.”
The spokesperson said, “As part of the PsychedOut initiative, the event marks the start of a collective showcasing a healing approach to Bermuda’s mental health crisis. Through collaboration, education, and practical tools, the organizers aim to remove the stigma surrounding mental health, showing that seeking help is a sign of strength.

“Whether you’re a mental health professional, someone seeking support, or simply curious about how to navigate the complexities of mental wellness, this event offers a welcoming and insightful space. Attendees can expect to leave with greater understanding, actionable tools, and a newfound connection to Bermuda’s mental health community.
“Therapeutic Speed Dating is set to be an essential step forward for Bermuda, empowering individuals to become PsychedOut in the best way possible—by becoming more informed, more resilient, and more connected to the mental health resources they need.
