BCCL, Reading & Mindset Host Dyslexia Forum
BCCL School, The Reading Clinic and Mindset Bermuda hosted a sold-out dyslexia forum for 70 educators, ahead of BCCL’s Dyslexia Awareness Month campaign.
A spokesperson said, “This past weekend, BCCL School, in partnership with The Reading Clinic and Mindset Bermuda, hosted the ‘Unlocking Potential: A Dyslexia Awareness & Educational Forum’. Made possible through a generous donation from Jim and Debbie Butterfield, the professional development and training session was open to all Bermuda public and private school educators and it was a sold out event with 70 teachers in attendance. “Most valuable takeaway was receiving all the valuable information in such an intimate space that allows 1:1 conversations with the professionals.”
“The event provided educators with the latest research and practical strategies for supporting students with dyslexia and other language-based learning differences. Expert speakers included Vivian Gonsalves, PhD, of the University of Florida Literacy Institute, Dr. Samantha Scott-O’Bannon from Mindset Bermuda, and Amy Da Costa of The Reading Clinic. Attendees participated in workshops on early dyslexia identification, assessments, and evidence-based learning strategies. An attendee said, “Complex, broad content matter was broken down and presented in a practical, relevant delivery.”
“The forum aimed to empower teachers with the tools to better support students with dyslexia, reinforcing the message that with the right interventions, these students can thrive academically and was timed with the start of Dyslexia Awareness Month in October.
“In October BCCL School will be launching its #untileveryonecanreadbda public awareness campaign to raise community awareness about Dyslexia and other language-based learning differences. This will be in conjunction with the tag days on 10th and 11th October where all money will go to the School’s much needed bursary fund.”
