Bermuda Diabetes’ ‘Blue Circle Walk’ Today
The Bermuda Diabetes Association, together with local partners, will introduce the Blue Circle Walk on October 28, a self-guided route in Hamilton designed to promote healthier lifestyles.
A spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Diabetes Association with the support of the Corporation of Hamilton and many Hamilton businesses are launching a self guided walking route around the streets and parks of Hamilton. The route, of just over a mile, is marked with blue circles and called the Bermuda Diabetes Association Blue Circle Walk. The significance of the Blue Circle is that it is the United Nations international logo for diabetes. Look out for the blue circle markers in Hamilton with QR code taking you to a route map. Debbie Jones, of the Bermuda Diabetes Association, says the inspiration for the guided walk came from conversations with people working in Hamilton who expressed a wish to walk during their lunch hour but admitted to not knowing where to walk.
“Walking is a great way to improve one’s health and mental outlook, and it doesn’t take a lot of expensive sporting equipment to do it. Put on a good pair of shoes and grab a water bottle and you’re ready to go. It doesn’t matter how fast or how far you walk, the important thing is to get moving!
“The Mayor of Hamilton will launch the walk on Monday 28th October at 12.30pm from the steps of City Hall. All are welcome to participate in the walk led by the Town Crier.
“Millions of people with diabetes around the world face daily challenges managing their condition at home, work or school. A key focus of the International Diabetes Federation over the next three years is putting well-being at the heart of diabetes care to encourage a change for a better diabetes life. Physical inactivity is one of the leading risk factors for an increased risk of death from noncommunicable diseases. So get moving and kick-off a commitment to a lifetime of healthy living and well being.”
