Bermuda Is Love Launch #FoodForLife

October 5, 2024 | 1 Comment

This October, Bermuda Is Love has launched the #FoodForLife campaign, in which they “aim to combat hunger, food insecurity, and nutritional inequity, by promoting and building sustainable and holistic food system practices in Bermuda.”

A spokesperson said, “This campaign aims to unite individuals and local organizations around food as our common ground, in a collective, community effort to support and provide sustained equality of access to healthy, nutritious food at an affordable price, while building a more sustainable, economically and environmentally secure, and risk-resilient food system here in Bermuda.

“Food insecurity remains a globally critical issue and is extremely impactful locally on many individuals and families in Bermuda, where many in our community are presently forced to choose between paying for basic necessities such as rent and healthcare, and accessing good quality healthy food.

#FoodForLife Campaign

“The cumulative impact these interrelated issues have on driving Bermudians deeper into the cycle of poverty is a state of socioeconomic degradation that we cannot leave unaddressed, and the #FoodForLife campaign seeks to raise awareness about the severity of this problem and to mobilize our local community resources to provide meals and food security to those in need.

“In addition to addressing acute hunger, the #FoodForLife campaign emphasizes the critical importance of sustainable food system practices. The campaign will host workshops and educational events to teach our community about the importance of nutrition, circular food economy systems, and sustainable farming and food production methods. Through promoting these future-focused practices, we can create a healthier population and a more resilient food system for both present and future generations in Bermuda.

“Bermuda Is Love believes that access to nutritious food is a basic human right. Through the #FoodForLife campaign, we are committed to not only supporting the provision of food access for those with the greatest need, but also to empower our community to build a sustainable and equitable food system for our collective shared benefit.

#FoodForLife Schedule

“Please join us this month as we work together to make a lasting impact through the #FoodForLife campaign. Whether by volunteering, donating, or spreading the word, your participation can help to ensure that no one in Bermuda goes hungry, and that we build a tasty, healthy, and sustainable food future for all!

  1. Driving Bermudians deeper into poverty says:

Really? When the airlines, restaurants and cruise ship agents complain that their numbers are very low then I will believe that people cannot afford food and food cost are too high. No complaints about the bigger cars they are buying. No complaints about the cost of their carnival outfits. Lots of these “helping” programmes are making Bermudians complain more to get more. When these programmes disappear , folks will find legal ways to make ends meet and to save. OK. Keep giving and the numbers in the food lines will grow bigger until the numbers in the cruise and car lines decline. It is not being cruel. And because of such programmes,we will continue to reap what we sow.
