Column: PLP’s Robinson On Strategic Investment
[Opinion column written by PLP Senator Leslie Robinson]
As the Junior Minister for Public Works, I am excited to share the details of our recent massive social investment—an initiative designed to restore our roads, clean up our public spaces, and ensure that Bermuda’s natural beauty is preserved. This $3.4 million investment focuses on two core areas:
- Enhancing and beautifying our streets and sidewalks through solo sweeping, overgrown vegetation clearing, and
- Restoring and improving our roadways to boost connectivity and safety.
Cleaner Streets, less vegetation on our trails, and an additional $600K for Public Clean-Up Initiatives!
We all know that Bermuda needs to do better when it comes to keeping our trees cut back and grass in public spaces from being overgrown, and recognise the frustration that this has caused to residents. That’s why the government is dedicating an additional $600,000 to public clean-up efforts across the island. Through this investment, we will double the number of solo sweepers and boost the teams to clear overgrown vegetation and maintain the cleanliness of our public spaces.
The results will be evident—cleaner streets, more easily usable walkways, a more pristine and attractive Bermuda, and a better quality of life for Bermudians.
Our island’s reputation as a breathtaking paradise is one of our greatest assets. By investing in cleaner streets and greener spaces, we are preserving that reputation and creating a healthier environment for all.
$2.8 million for Smoother Roads and to Beautify Our Community:
Safe, smooth roads are what Bermudians want and expect but they are also essential to our infrastructure and our quality of life. That’s why the government is investing heavily in critical roadworks. This investment is about more than just filling potholes and repaving roads it’s about restoring pride in our island through:
- Private Road paving and streetlight installation
- Railway Trail and Tribe Road Vegetation clearing
- Repairing or replacing outdoor gym and playground equipment
- Repairs to Mangrove Bay Dock in Sandys, Ports Island, Dock Hill Swimming Facility and the Farm Facility Jetty
- New Flashing Crosswalk Beacons
- Palmetto Road steel fencing and sidewalk repairs
- A new Horseshoe Bay Lifeguard Tower
- Parklands fencing installation
Building a Better Bermuda
From cleaner streets to smoother, safer roads, to repairing our infrastructure, we are committed to enhancing the quality of life for all Bermudians. By prioritising these critical improvements, we are making Bermuda a better place to live, work, and visit.
The government remains dedicated to building a Bermuda that works for everyone and leaves no one behind. In this year’s budget, we doubled the funding for roadworks to $5 million to address the conditions of our roads. These latest investments are part of our ongoing efforts to ensure that Bermuda remains a beautiful, vibrant, and connected community for generations to come.

Very nice platitudes. So after 25+ years of PLP neglect, the PLP are trying to take credit for clearing up some of the mess they created. What about the wasted money on Grand Atlantic/Bermudiana Beach? $100m and still counting would have built two bridges and left plenty over for other critical infrastructure repairs.
Isn’t this what W & E should have been doing an an ongoing basis? Not misguided property development. Where have they been, and that includes the Minister, over the 25 years?
ACCOUNTABILITY ?
Has always been the missing link !
I know it…
You know it…
They know it …
Do you remember what Vance Campbell said about the PLP when he crossed the floor of the House of Assembly?
” VANCE CAMPBELL …………. CROSS THE FLOOR”
Way are we waiting ?
How could any body be interested in any thought or actions of and in any body who can not stand by or on their own ground.
Who, can instantly become a dis believer to their own orrigional beleifs or convictions?
Change shoes ! Chance socks ! Change hats !
They all do and say what their party leader tell them.
I am the son of a working man who told me to do beter for my self .
I was never a boss of any body .
Consequently, I will always beleive that a hard working tax paying man deserver representation ,union or other wise.
Brother Vance go back on bended knee or become an independent ,may be work some majic there.
I am going to defend Vance here. He did the right thing in my opinion. I was surprised when Vance got into politics. The Vance I used to know was more interested in doing the right thing than the politically astute thing.
What is the OBE having to say about all this masive expenditure dealing with a 50 billion tons of over grown shrubbery
And 10 thousand rusty containers , enough to buidour own cars.
I guess that all we can assume is that they are talking to the trees which blow in the breeze as they wave good by to our visitor who may never return to our over priced shores ever again .
Can’t we hardly beleive that Bermuda has lost it way with a country ,with left in, and left out , taxpayers as we see more of money going out through the roof.
Our hurricanes have done most of tree pruning in the past.
We are Senior ,seniors having just finished cleaning 160 ft of road side shrubbery been doin that for years got 4 stacked wheel barrows we do a bit at a time our neighbors walking their drugs are too lazy to join in.
As a gentle reminder there is more to clean up than a few Match ~ me ~ if~ You ~can shrubbery .
It is ok ! for our leaders replace the Divots and play at executive boss we have four in each Parish just there to write entertaining stories, give out orders, includding writing big checks and not wanting to get their blue suits dusty.
The hole in the Pocket and the leaky tap drip drip drip Theory.
Mr Father told me , if I went out I should have $50.oo and change in my pocket , come to think of it today it would all be gone in taxi fares ,which would not be there when I came home.
I did not imagine that Atlantic/ Bermudiana Beach ( A herd of White Elephants has walked through there ) had cost us in excess of $100 mill. Kind of regrettable and unfortunate that our people with 10 thousand excuses did not care for it .
This is ,when to much is not enough .
We need it .
We want it.
We got to have it.
Now !
Next they will be wanting a celebrity sidewalk like the one in Rodeo drive Hollywood .
‘ Bridge to no where’ sounds great like the one in Alaska if it would fit in , together with an olympic pool ..
At the airport project they could have installed a metal roof just like the White House the Presidence residence has.
May I ask what is the present Draw card ?
IF a hotel a hundred booking agent will be required .
