Archery Outdoor Nationals Set For Saturday
The National Archery Association of Bermuda [NAAB] will hold its Outdoor National event at the Gold Point Archery Range in St George’s on Saturday [October 5].
It will be the final outdoor event of the season, with the archers now preparing for the indoor campaign.
Among those competing will be Camerin Pickering and Jaydon Roberts, who have shot the Olympic Minimum Qualification Score [640] in a World Archery Ranking event, which made them eligible for a universality spot at the recent Olympic Games in Paris.
Bermuda narrowly missed out on an archery berth in Paris after Bhutan and El Salvador were awarded universality slots instead by the International Olympic Committee’s Tripartite Commission.
Pickering holds the national record at 70 for the Senior Recurve Men [646/720], and Roberts holds the national record at 70 for the Junior Recurve Men [643/720].
Both will compete in their respective categories this weekend.
The distances shot at the event will be nine and 18 metres for Yeoman and Bowman archers, 30 for those aged 13 and above and 50 for the Compound shooters.
Those Cadets and Juniors who are at the standard to compete in the International Youth Championships will shoot at 60 and 70.
Senior Recurve archers will shoot the Olympic distance of 70.
