PLP Responds To OBA’s Throne Speech Reply
The PLP said that the OBA’s “call for an election is perplexing, especially given their ongoing challenges in presenting a full slate of candidates.”
A spokesperson said, “The Government acknowledges the One Bermuda Alliance’s [OBA] recent response to the Throne Speech. However, their call for an election is perplexing, especially given their ongoing challenges in presenting a full slate of candidates and their either not being able to or not being willing to show pictures of the support [or lack thereof] of their events.
“The recent by-election results are telling. In 2012, the OBA nearly secured Constituency 36, losing by less than 10 votes; today, they find themselves at the bottom of the polls. This decline reflects the electorate’s diminishing confidence in the OBA leadership and vision for Bermuda.
“While the OBA attempts to project a renewed social conscience, they have yet to address or apologise for their record in government—a record defined by broken promises, cuts to social support, record taxes on workers, and policies that prioritised the privileged few over everyday Bermudians.
“Their tenure saw controversial decisions like the airport and Morgan’s Point deals that drained public resources and the infamous “Jetgate” scandal, which shattered public trust. And, Jetgate Craig Cannonier remains one of the leaders in their party! Combine that with their refusal to increase pensions for Seniors for 4 years, telling seniors money doesn’t grow on trees while funnelling millions of dollars to a billionaire boat race.
“The OBA’s response lacks concrete solutions to pressing social issues – only a joke of a pamphlet. Their critique of the government’s efforts to address income inequality and provide affordable housing is not accompanied by viable alternatives, raising questions about their commitment to social justice, economic equity and a fairer Bermuda.
“The few suggestions they did make in their response were either already in progress under the Progressive Labour Party, non-existent, or amounted to nothing more than a rebranding of their controversial “pathways to status” initiative
“In contrast, the Progressive Labour Party has delivered real results for the people of Bermuda. Under our leadership, we have built a fairer Bermuda for Bermudians. We introduced Bermuda’s first minimum wage, raised pensions for our seniors, implemented affordable healthcare initiatives, and launched new programs to address public safety and support survivors of domestic violence. We’ve also begun major road repaving, while investing record amounts in affordable housing. All these are evidence of our commitment to building a fairer Bermuda for us.
“The Progressive Labour Party remains steadfast in our commitment to making steady progress towards a fairer Bermuda for all of us.”
PLP are perplexed by everything, that is why they have run Bermuda and Bermudians into the ground. They have changed Bermuda from a country of opportunity, with a choice of jobs, to one of increased poverty in needs of handouts, the growth of poverty under them is staggering.
They have no clue how to run a country. They are very good at propaganda, mind manipulation and retaining power even in the face of the disasters they keep spending out of all Bermudians pockets.
Their sycophants usually don’t ask to list these failures as they know there is a huge list and people would be only too happy to provide many examples.
HAHAHAH THE PLP IS RUNNING SCAAAAAAAARED……no more gravy train soon! Uh-oh!
this has to be the biggest train wreck in history …the plp are so out of touch with reality …jetgate is pittance when you consider the black hole they have put us in 3 billion in debt belongs to the plp government …and btw the few millions put into that boat race netted Bermuda a 100 million + time to go ..your failures are adding up …and another btw Morgans point was caused by the plp ..lets go to the Hospital we are still paying millions every qtr …police HQ Berkely the cruise ship piers …now to our every day …roads only good for horses an economy so bad Bermudians having to leave to survive which leads to less paying into the system …health cost stupid …but wait they paid EB millions they thought he was cut short because a limit was placed on MRI charges …what a joke TIME TO GO
A piece of advice for the PLP. We want you debate substantive issues. You have been in power for 31 of the past 36 years, and here were are with roads falling apart, violent crime commonplace, a tanking economy, all while well over $!50m of borrowed money has been wasted by you over the past two decades on the still-empty Grand Atlantic. A monument to government incompetence. Instead of debating about these things, the PLP wants to whine about ‘Jetgate’ and ‘millionaire boat race’. Frankly, it’s insulting.
DEBT, IS MONEY OWED TO OTHERS.
When we owes another man money he owns us . Lock , Stock and Barrel .
Bermuda has sold the family farm including !
B.E.L.Co : Three Bank: A large food store: and what was left went under and demolished the out house .
The restrictions places on me 50 years ago for of sale of my home to non Bermudians and the lack of local cash similar to Bermudiana Berach put me and hondreds of others by having no other word for it but a loss.
May I ask if the people of Bermuda actually realize the gravity or have any idea of how much four billion dollars and the aditional one hundred million for housing of debt this island with its depleted population , our devaluation of our dollar caused by inflation actually is ?
Aparantly no reference to a referendum was put to the people authorizing those blank check expenditures.
Look at it this way, who would buy four houses: eight condo’s : seven trips to Europe : and two boat : 50 Busses 6 executive cars all on borrowed money?
This island went from millions cash in hand economy to zero ,to an unrealistict un believable position for the creation of a national debt with no accountability for , The Airport , The Hospital. The Court House , also BHC housing mortgage loans paripally recovered by cash sale to the banks, including maintenance expenditure on prefabs and misc insurance and maintenance expenditure for all .
Now we have more being spent on neglected roads.
To top it all off, no effort to soften the agony of inflation for all. .
