Students To Compete In Skyport Carol-Off
Hundreds of students will compete in Skyport’s second annual Great Bermuda Carol-Off for a chance to win $15,000 in prizes to support local music programmes.
A spokesperson said, “The sounds of the season will fill L.F. Wade International Airport this December as more than 700 students from 22 schools compete in Skyport’s second annual Great Bermuda Carol-Off. This three-day extravaganza promises festive performances, community connection, and over $15,000 in prizes for local music programmes.
“Schools will compete for the titles of ‘Best Primary School Choir’ and ‘Best Secondary School Choir,’ each earning $5,000 for their music programs. Runners-up in both categories will receive $2,000 each, and the audience will have their say with the ‘People’s Choice Award,’ where the most popular choir will win $1,200 – online and in-person voting will open during the event.
Three Days of Festive Competition
“Performing under the island’s largest Christmas tree, students will serenade travelers, Skyport staff, and visitors with 15-minute sets. The event will take place at L.F. Wade International Airport on:
- Monday, December 2
- Wednesday, December 4
- Thursday, December 5
“Performances will run throughout the day, culminating in the announcement of the shortlisted choirs on December 6.
Introducing the Winners’ Concert
“A new feature of the Carol-Off this year is the Winners’ Concert, where the top five choirs will showcase their talents once more. The concert will take place on Thursday, December 12, from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM, offering an evening of holiday music for passengers, visitors, and the community. The event is free to attend, but early booking is encouraged due to high demand.
Judging Criteria
“Performances will be judged by a panel of three experts, led by Chief Judge Dale Butler, who will evaluate choirs based on their harmonic skill, creativity, professionalism, and — most importantly — Christmas spirit.
A Community Celebration
“Skyport will provide all transportation for participating schools and senior care homes to ensure everyone can join the festivities. A complimentary lunch will also be offered to students and seniors. Senior care homes interested in attending are encouraged to email communications@skyport.bm to arrange seating.
“Members of the public, including families and community groups, are invited to cheer on their favorite choirs. While booking is not required, visitors can guarantee their place for the Carol-Off or Winners’ Concert by registering online at www.ptix.bm/Event/8100/Bermuda-Carol-Off.
Celebrating Last Year’s Champions
“Last year’s winners included Bermuda Institute’s Senior Choir and Northlands Primary, which each earned them the $5,000 grand prize in their respective categories. Warwick Academy’s Middle School Choir secured the $2,500 runner-up prize, while Francis Patton Primary claimed the $1,200 People’s Choice Award.
Nikki Fagan, Head of Brand Development & Communications at Skyport, said: ‘We are excited to be hosting The Great Bermuda Carol-Off again at L.F. Wade International Airport. Skyport is committed to supporting youth in the science, arts, sports and education, and we believe this event supports that mission in the spirit of the season. So much of what we love about the holidays is wrapped up in travel and music, and we look forward to bringing them together with the Carol-Off and Winners’ Concert in December.’
A spokesperson added, “For more information about the Great Bermuda Carol-Off and to reserve your spot, visit www.ptix.bm/Event/8100/Bermuda-Carol-Off.”
