Ryan Day Wins Black Theatre Award In UK
Bermudian lighting designer Ryan Day said it was an “incredible feeling” to win a Black British Theatre Award in London, England.
Day, who was nominated for Best Lighting Design, was unable to attend the awards at the iconic Lyceum Theatre this month as he was in technical rehearsals for a new version of The Red Shoes at the Royal Shakespeare Company’s Swan Theatre.
His mother, Kim Day, the Bermuda Musical and Dramatic Society president, received the award on his behalf and read his acceptance speech.
“I’m incredibly honoured to be recognised for a body of work, not just one project,” Mr Day told Bernews.
“I’m very proud to win because I was up against some talented competition.
“It was great to be nominated, let alone win it. It feels like I’m doing a version of the right thing and going in the right direction.”
The 25-year-old was one of two Bermudians up for awards, with actress Sedona-Sky Duffy nominated in the Best Recent Graduate category.
Ms Duffy recently made her West End debut in Heathers the Musical, playing high school senior Heather Duke.
