BHS Appoint Nichola Cunha As Head Of Primary
The Bermuda High School announced that Nichola Cunha has been appointed Head of Primary from August 2025 onwards.
A spokesperson said, “The Bermuda High School is pleased to announce that Mrs Nichola Cunha has been appointed Head of Primary from August 2025 onwards.
“Mrs Cunha will take over the position from Mrs Tracy Renaud, who is retiring from BHS after 10 years at the end of the 2024/2025 academic year. Mrs Renaud taught Year 6 and served as Assessment Coordinator before becoming Head of Primary in 2018.”

Head of School, Carol Swainson, said, “Mrs Renaud has been an extraordinary community builder who has not only strengthened the teaching and learning in Primary, but she has fostered a culture of kindness and care among the students, staff, and families. She will be greatly missed by everyone at BHS.”
The spokesperson said, “Mrs Cunha holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Mount Allison University, New Brunswick, Canada, a Bachelor of Education degree from St Thomas University, New Brunswick, Canada, and a Masters of Education degree from Mount St Vincent University, Nova Scotia, Canada. Mrs Cunha has over 20 years of experience in education as a teacher and in various leadership positions: 6 years at Harrington Sound Primary, 8 years at Saltus Grammar School and 9 years at BHS. Mrs Cunha has taught from Year 4 to Year 6 and has served as Mathematics and Numeracy Coordinator, Year Level Leader, and Booster Camp Supervisor. Mrs Cunha also has extensive knowledge of Parent Portals, managing multiple platforms throughout her time at BHS.”
“It has been an absolute privilege to serve as the Head of Primary at BHS over the past six years. I will deeply miss the students, staff, and our wonderful families. During the past 15 years, I have had the honour of working closely with Mrs Cunha, watching her grow and excel in various leadership roles. I have no doubt that the Primary Department is in exceptionally capable hands, and I look forward to collaborating with Mrs Cunha in the coming two terms to ensure a smooth and seamless transition.” said Mrs Renaud.
Mrs Cunha’s experience in education, her passion for teaching and learning, and her unbridled enthusiasm for the Primary Years have positioned her well for this role. Looking to the future, she remarked, “I am deeply honoured to take on this responsibility and join the dynamic, innovative Leadership Team at The Bermuda High School. My top priority is ensuring our students’ success and equipping them to step confidently into the challenges of the evolving global landscape. The staff’s commitment to excellence continues to raise the bar, and the achievements of our many accomplished alumni stand as a testament to this dedication.
