Scott Barnes Claims Fourth Series Title
Scott Barnes claimed a fourth straight Shifter Masters title in the Skusa Winter Series at the Orlando Kart Centre in Florida yesterday [February 9].
The island’s top karting driver, competing for Maranello Kart USA, went into rounds three and four of the competition leading the standings.
Barnes, 40, posted the fastest lap in qualifying in round three on Saturday, and although he did not finish in the pre-final, he won the final race.
In the fourth round yesterday, Barnes set the fastest lap in qualifying, took the chequered flag in the pre-final, but was forced to retire in the final because of engine failure while in the lead.
“We’re now four-times Skusa Winter Series Shifter Masters Champions!” Barnes wrote on social media.
“[I] can’t thank Nathan Royea, Maranello Kart USA, and Carblos Racing Engines enough for giving the opportunity to race with this team and everything they do for me!
“Huge thank you to my sponsors Butterfield and Vallis [Powerade], All Rise Ltd and Cory Simpson.
“Big thank you to Brad Danoff to for coming out and turning wrenches for me this weekend; [it] was a big help!
“Congrats to team-mates Justin White and Vincenzo Sarracino for a one/three podium this weekend and Justin taking the second place in Championship.
“These two young guys are going be a force this season.”
Barnes will start his Skusa Pro Tour title defence at the WinterNationals in New Caney, Texas, with rounds one and two set for March 28-30 at Speedsportz Racing Park.
