Feline Diplomat Serving Alongside Governor
A feline diplomat has come out of retirement to serve alongside Governor Andrew Murdoch in Bermuda.
Palmerston, a black-and-white rescue cat is a former resident of the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office [FCDO] in London, where he was known as the “chief mouser” from 2016 to 2020.
Recently, his account on social media platform X said he had been lured back by “diplomacy and a purr-fect role.”
The Governor, who previously worked with Palmerston at the Foreign Office, has been his owner since the cat’s retirement.
Announcing his new position, the FCDO stated: “The FCDO’s first feline diplomat, Palmerston, has taken up a new posting alongside the Governor of Bermuda, Andrew Murdoch.
“Palmerston, formerly the Chief Mouser at the Foreign & Commonwealth Office in London from 2016-2020, is now semi-retired. He will attend only the meetings he deems important, offering advice when necessary and indulging in well-earned naps.”
