Department Seeks Owners Of Abandoned Vehicles
The Department of Parks has asked the “owners of abandoned vehicles found on park properties to come forward and claim their impounded vehicles” by April 4th.
A Government spokesperson said, “The Department of Parks, in line with the Bermuda National Parks Regulations 1988, issues this public notice requesting the owners of abandoned vehicles found on park properties to come forward and claim their impounded vehicles by Friday, 4 April 2025.
“The vehicles, identified below by their license plates, have been held for 30 days without being claimed and will be disposed of if not retrieved promptly:
- Black Peugeot Licence # 51345
- Blue Suzuki Licence # 24755
- Blue Yaris Licence # 07624
- Sea ray Boat registration # 16023
- White Renault Van Licence # HA695
- Grey Peugeot Licence 18661
“Despite multiple attempts to reach the owner through the Transport Control Department, there has been no response.
“Therefore, the Department of Parks urgently requests the owners to contact the department immediately. The department can be reached between Monday and Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., at 236-5902.
“If the vehicles are not claimed, the Minister of Public Works and Environment will dispose of them in accordance with the Bermuda National Parks Regulations 1988.
“The Department of Parks highlights the need for swift action to avoid this outcome and clarifies that it is not responsible for any damage or deterioration that may occur during the transport and storage of impounded vehicles.
“Furthermore, the release of impounded vehicles requires the payment of fees related to towing, removal, and storage as specified in the Bermuda National Parks Regulations 1988 and the Bermuda National Parks [Fees] Regulations 2018 Schedule.
“These fees must be paid before the vehicle is released to the owner or their authorised representative. For further inquiries or additional information, concerned parties are encouraged to contact the Department of Parks directly.
“The Department of Parks appreciates the public’s cooperation and underscores the importance of adhering to park regulations to maintain Bermuda’s parklands for the benefit of the entire community.”
1st we say oh why bother it’s just one wild chicken. In the blink of an eye thousands. The same with cars and trucks. At the end of the notice that’s it. We have to move early to send a clear message that such actions are not only illegal but they destroy the beauty of Bermuda.
Who the hell is running this Government. They have their registration.
Dispose and expose.
Here is an idea I bet nobody thought of. Why don’t they start with the TCD and M&P to see who the last registered owners were. Next, how about fining the owners for abandoning vehicles. If they sold the vehicles they would know who to. When you purchase a new VAN TCD ask that you provide details to them within X days of whether or not it was sold for reuse or parts, destroyed, or where it was parked. Sorry, but if the seller didn’t do that, either prove who you sold / gifted it to by means of a bill of sale. If you don’t have it, well tough life lesson and too bad on you. Ignorance is no excuse for breaking the law.
Get fined, learn a lesson or prove who you sold it to.
I mean if I overstay my welcome and park my legal vehicle 1 minute longer than legally allowed to, I get an instant $75 fine (or clamped) for going over by one minute. But someone INTENTIONALLY PARKS OR ABANDONS a vehicle/boat and they politely ask people to remove. WTF! They always issue a threat of a big fine and Wayne Furbert will make a plea to the owners with more talk of fines or imprisonment but that has NEVER happened!
Let me tell you how this will play out. In a week or two you will see parking tickets placed on the windows of the abandoned cars. Nobody will ever get them, and nobody will pay them. A few weeks after that the tax payer pays for their removal and nobody is ever fined or imprisoned. Parks and Marine & Ports will pay to have these items removed and disposed of and the tax payer will eat the bill. Six months to a year later their will be new vehicles abandoned there.
Bulls eye.
As someone that lived in Devonshire as a child and still visits the dock hill area daily up until I became Ill a month ago , I find it hard to believe that nobody from Parks Department noticed the MASSIVE BOAT that has been illegally parked in the public dock hill dock. Somebody parked it there illegally 6+ months ago and started working on it and then stopped. Then there are the huts that were illegally built out of plywood scraps so that they boys that wanna hang out all day instead of working or taking care of their family can be comfortable.
Parks, I’m sorry but don’t pretend that you mean business with the annual fluffy threats. Put your foot down! Name , shame and fine! Have those heavily paid ministers back you publicly. Take our parks back and others will not be tempted to continue doing the same selfish @#$! . Two years of tough business will lead to decades where you will once again be respected for what you are paid to do .
I have a couple of comments to offer.
First, the park at the bottom of Dock Hill is treated very differently from, say, Astwood Park or Jobson’s Cove. In fact, all of the parks along North Shore Road in Devonshire and Pembroke are treated differently from the parks on the South Shore in Warwick and Southampton.
Second, our Government has no intention of getting tough on locals. Our Government panders to locals because that is its power base.
I noticed while walking at Coopers Island, St. George’s three days ago there were several abandoned cars. These should also be included to the abandoned cars list in Parks. TCD should be able to provide the last owners name and address and contact details.
Um i guess the Powers at be don’t look at the cars, check all the details?
51347 (number plate on windscreen) is a VW and DEFFO not a Peugeot
