Franklin & Carrick Win Squash Championships
The Gnosis Bermuda National Squash Championships 2025 concluded, with the finals providing a fitting climax to a week of captivating squash action at the Bermuda Squash Racquets Association Club in Devonshire.
The women’s open final saw a significant upset as second seed Eilidh Franklin defeated top seed Melina Turk in a thrilling four-set encounter. Franklin’s impressive performance, which took 33 minutes, resulted in a scoreline of 11-8, 5-11, 11-8, 11-5, securing her the coveted title.
In the men’s open final, top seed Taylor Carrick lived up to expectations, claiming victory over second seed Micah Franklin. Carrick’s triumph came in three sets, with scores of 14-12, 11-3, 11-6.
The men’s veterans over 60 division final witnessed a dramatic conclusion. Second seed Jan Brewer emerged victorious after top seed Eugene Bothello was forced to retire injured. The match was tightly contested, with the score level at 2-2 in the fifth game before Bothello’s retirement, with the set scores being 11-4, 4-11, 11-6, 9-11.
Mason Smith staged a remarkable comeback in the men’s b bracket 2 division final. After falling two sets behind, Smith rallied to defeat Jonah Every in a five-set thriller. The match, which lasted 40 minutes, ended with a scoreline of 10-12, 8-11, 11-8, 11-8, 11-6.
In the women’s open 3rd/4th place match, fifth seed Sydney Wallace secured victory over third seed Abigail Brewer. The match went to five sets, with Wallace eventually prevailing with scores of 11-8, 11-5, 8-11, 8-11, 11-8.
