Minister Meets With LTR & Consumer Affairs

Minister of Home Affairs Alexa Lightbourne has “commenced a series of engagements with Ministry departments and stakeholders to address key matters and priorities.”

A Government spokesperson said, “These meetings mark the beginning of Minister Lightbourne’s commitment to strengthening relationships across the Ministry and ensuring the successful delivery of initiatives as outlined in the Government’s 2025 Throne Speech.

“The public should note that the Ministry of Home Affairs comprises of Consumer Affairs, the Land Title Registry Office, Energy, and the Regulatory Authority.

“And as announced in the Government’s 2025 Throne Speech, the Ministry of Home Affairs has been tasked with addressing the cost of living.

“This includes:

  • Stabilizing energy costs and promoting an energy transition;
  • Addressing the rising cost of essential goods; and
  • Advancing the principles and policies that result in consumer protection, and safeguarding these changes through the reform of regulatory oversight.

“In her initial round of visits, Minister Lightbourne met with the leadership and staff of the Department of Land Title Registry [LTR] and Consumer Affairs.

“With Consumer Affairs, Minister Lightbourne highlighted the department’s critical role in safeguarding consumer rights and addressing issues related to the cost-of-living and rent control.

“At the Department of LTR, the Minister received an in-depth overview of the department’s operations and was also briefed on the current efforts to integrate artificial intelligence and digital innovation to streamline processes, create efficiencies and better serve the public.”

Minister Lightbourne said, “It was important for me to meet directly with the teams in these critical departments. Both Consumer Affairs and Land Title Registry play an integral role in supporting our national priorities – from affordability and consumer protection to land security and economic stability. I was deeply impressed by the professionalism, knowledge, and commitment of the staff.

“I look forward to working collaboratively with each team as we pursue shared goals, particularly around cost-of-living relief and the introduction of innovative, citizen-first services.”

The Government spokesperson said, “The Ministry will continue its departmental visits in the coming weeks as it executes its mandate to deliver meaningful reforms that improve the lives of all Bermudians.”

    Mr. A Lightbourne.

    The fact that the Government find it some what dificult to listen to the people.
    I have come to doubt if the people will want to in future listen to the Government, the chain of trust has been broken.
    We can no longer bail out the Government the income is just not there it has left the island.

    All that has created three problem one of which we see you try to solve .

    Belco right under our nose will in crease their RATES again. thar will see a fire storm of anger discontentment throuugh out the entire comunity .

    I hope that your coleages are not hoving you chasing the bull around the china shop.

    it is very obvious what the problem are / is it does not take a rocket scientist to tell you what the problem is in simple terms it is” money” and ……………………….. . people your voters have to work for it and they see our money going to interest payments and profits .

    The infrastructure explosion has go off in our faces.

    Bermuda has bit off more than it can chew and we are not to blame.

    M&P just sent notice demandin its boat tax let us see who will pay it ?

    May I recomend you go back to parliament including all of your heads of departments and sort it out

    At you earliest,it is not your problem it is theirs as the once again passes the buck , also there is only way to solve it ,frankly Bermuda has become two expenceive to live here and the others are no longer interested having their earnings taken away that does not go down well.
    BELCo do not care two bitts .

    1) A large group of people have decided to pick up roots and depart this island.

    2) A considerable number of people decided not to vote in the last election.

    3) The cost of living has gone beyond realistic,

    Bermuda is presently in a state of emergency .

      Sadly, we do not have much of a choice. Either we bail out the Government or we go the way of Jamaica and Zimbabwe
