Bermuda Arts Council Unveils New Emblems

The Bermuda Arts Council [BAC] has announced the creation of a unique emblem for each of its prestigious awards, designed by a talented group of local graphic designers.

A Government spokesperson said, “This initiative celebrates the diversity and depth of Bermuda’s artistic talent while visually reinforcing the significance of each award category.

“From the symbolism of legacy and resilience to themes of growth, courage, and cultural identity, each emblem encapsulates the spirit of the award it represents. The Bermuda Arts Council collaborated with a selection of local designers, each bringing their own artistic voice and Bermudian perspective, to shape the visual identity of the Organization Grant, Mary Prince Award, BAC Fellowship, Earl Cameron Award, and many others.”

Minister of Tourism & Transport, Culture & Sport Owen Darrell stated: “As the Bermuda Arts Council is the primary external funding body of the Department of Culture, it is in perfect alignment to engage local creatives to design the emblems for these Government grant opportunities.

“These are more than just visual markers; they are cultural symbols that highlight the vibrancy of Bermuda’s creative community. We are proud to showcase the depth of our local design talent through this project, and we commend the artists who so thoughtfully brought these concepts to life.”

The spokesperson said, “Designers such as Avarie Graham, Dr. Edwin M.E. Smith, Nanohour, SJD World, Corrina Rego, Jordan Carey, Alice Coutet, Shanna Hollis, Shanna Henry, and Hannah Collins infused each emblem with meaning rooted in Bermuda’s identity. Whether it’s the moongate, the Bermudiana flower, or symbols of artistic tools, each design reflects the grant’s purpose and the aspirations of its recipients.

“This initiative not only enhances the aesthetic value of BAC’s grants but also honours the narratives and legacy of Bermuda’s artists. The emblems will be used across various platforms and promotional materials to visually tie together the Council’s mission of fostering and celebrating artistic excellence across the island.
