International Nurses Day Ceremony Held
Minister of Health Kim Wilson expressed heartfelt gratitude for Bermuda’s nursing professionals during the Bermuda Nursing Association’s Nurse of the Year ceremony.
A Government spokesperson said, “On Friday, May 9, Minister of Health Kim Wilson attended the Bermuda Nursing Association’s Nurse of the Year ceremony, where she expressed heartfelt gratitude for the dedication and hard work of Bermuda’s nursing professionals. Their commitment to care and compassion continues to strengthen our healthcare system and support the well-being of our community.”
Minister Wilson said, “Nurses are the heart of healthcare, serving with dedication, selflessness, and skill. They are not only caregivers but also advocates, educators, and leaders who shape the health and wellbeing of our communities. Their contributions often extend far beyond the bedside, touching lives in profound and meaningful ways.
“By elevating nursing, we reshape public perception, recognize the dignity of the profession, and ensure its sustainability for generations to come.
“I commend the Bermuda Nurses Association for its tireless efforts to enhance nursing through education, scholarships, mentorship, and policy reform.
“Your work to increase scholarship offerings and support students, both here at Bermuda College and abroad, is admirable. Through your generous donation to Bermuda College, aspiring nurses have been allowed to take their NCLEX Examination overseas, further empowering them to pursue this vital career.
“The Association’s ongoing collaboration with stakeholders in Bermuda is instrumental in ensuring nurses can work to their full scope of practice.
“On behalf of the Ministry of Health and the Government of Bermuda, I extend heartfelt congratulations to the 2025 Nurse of the Year and the Bermuda Nurses Association for your dedicated service and commendable accomplishments.”
Monday, May 12th, was International Nurses Day, and Minister Wilson read the proclamation stating, “Despite the social and economic climate, nurses are renowned for promoting an environment where the individual, family, and community’s human rights, values, customs, and spiritual beliefs are respected. Nursing care is respectful of and unrestricted by considerations of age, color, creed, culture, disability, illness, gender, sexual orientation, nationality, politics, race, or social status. The potential for nurses to contribute to the improvement in the healthcare of our Bermuda population through ensuring access and provision of cost-effective, safe, high-quality healthcare services remains an ever-important component of the Bermuda healthcare delivery system now and for the future.”

NURSES .
What ever achievements the people of this island make there is alway some body ready to step in a and take the glory away, it is if they were the one who makes the conrtibution to the medical provession as our
dedicated nurses have made over the years .
Where are the leaders a 4.00 am in the morning atending to a medical emergency offerind moral support ,but never late to stand of the steps if City Hall.
The dedicated contribution and long hours ,that is any thing after midnight ,given is beyond comprehension for little or no thanks.
There is always tearsas they never go away when some more gives up the battle.
The nurses expertise extend fro littly babies to the elderly,. Amazing for sure !

Unfortunately not many students from Bermuda are driven to take up the profession an many come here from other countries since the days of Florence Nightingale nurses have been female we no see many men entering in the the profession.
From my experiances the profession of nursing is very demanding especially in the opperating room
The risk from infectiouse desease with covid19.
Our nurses braved it all , the chalenges of that were unbeleivable.
Every year Bermufa looks to find those special people to become our heroes this year.,you will need to look no furthere than our Nurses ommiting no one as they are all registered, be they he or she, be private or Hospital. WE have many retired nurses also to be consuffered
It would be good also the take the message to the schools .
Government health department has the money to fund the profession as there is no greater cause .
I use the word Battle with every intension in my 4 the paragraph above ,the word was inappropriate but true ,when we see our friend and family are confronted with the end days.
To our young people you will gain nothing if you do no learn from us in later years you will come to regret that.
The word Battle is very apparant when the people of this island are dealing with one another either socially or in business not one of you will give way .
This inflation had got to end as every body has got to make a scarifice
take the word Battle out of it the situarion stlii become an up hill struggle.

I have hsad dealing in my work with people who have returned here broke an busted an beyound any form of help .
They sold out here, an spent it all over there .
For help some are back here to start over not that easy underthe present circumstances.
They leave us holding the bag,and now want us to feel sorry for them. they are not Bermudian in the trewest sence of the word the are inigrants back here for a free ride.
it is said that the P.L,.P is not supportive of every body may i ask is the truth so hard to bare .
living in the past way of live offer no rewards as Bermuda is presently living in stagnation and if you are smart that in not good for any body .
Time to change with The Times, that will make you feel real good from the bonds that hold you
The secret to it all is simple , just get along.
