Competition Offers $25,000 For Entrepreneurs
The Wave of Opportunity Pitch Competition is offering local entrepreneurs the chance to win $25,000 to invest in their business.
A spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Economic Development Corporation [BEDC], in continued partnership with Global Atlantic, is pleased to announce the third annual Wave of Opportunity Pitch Competition. This initiative highlights Global Atlantic’s ongoing commitment to supporting economic growth and the entrepreneurial ecosystem in Bermuda.
“Entering its third year, the Wave of Opportunity Pitch Competition invites Bermuda’s entrepreneurs to present innovative business concepts for the chance to secure critical funding and support. Applications are now open, and finalists will have the opportunity to win up to $25,000 each. Following the application deadline on July 31st, submissions will undergo a review process and preliminary rounds to determine finalists who will then present during Global Entrepreneurship Week at the Hamilton Princess on Monday, November 17th, 2025.”
Erica Smith, Executive Director of BEDC, noted, “Our partnership with Global Atlantic has allowed the Wave of Opportunity Pitch Competition to significantly impact Bermuda’s entrepreneurial community. We’ve seen businesses grow and thrive through the resources, mentorship, and financial support provided by this competition. We look forward to continuing our commitment to fostering innovation and business success on the island.”
The spokesperson said, “Through Global Atlantic’s support, up to $125,000 in grant funds will again be available to this year’s winning entrepreneurs, driving job creation and business expansion across Bermuda.
“Last year’s Youth Category winner Nico Bean of Flow by Nico has expanded his offerings, including unique acrylic paintings, handcrafted ornaments, custom-printed notebooks, phone cases, and now tote bags.
“Last year’s Main Category winners included Adriene Berkeley of PsyNeu who has started her NeuPathways program aimed at cognitive skill development and emotional wellness. Jekon Edness and Kian Butterfield of Bermuda Sports Radar have significantly advanced their OTT sports media business, enhancing live event coverage and local sports highlights. Ashleigh Simons of Sade Milan Skin has purchased the necessary equipment to help her expand her all-natural intimate skincare brand emphasizing self-care and feminine wellness.
“Keely Trott, recipient of last year’s People’s Choice Award, used her prize funds to purchase essential equipment, allowing NBK School of Nails to expand its training capacity and onboard additional students.”
Jekon Edness, Co-owner of Bermuda Sports Radar, remarked on the benefits of the competition, “Winning the $25,000 in the ‘Wave of Opportunity’ Pitch Competition was a game changer for us. The funds allowed us to invest in upgraded streaming equipment and launch a professional website, elevating our local sports coverage and helping to spotlight Bermuda’s athletes to audiences locally and abroad.”
