Bermudian choreographer and writer Krystal S. Lowe is leading a cultural exchange with Welsh artist Kizzy Crawford to deepen connections between the Bermudian and Welsh arts sectors.

A spokesperson said, “Thanks to Bermuda Arts Council’s Onion Bulb Grant and Arts Council Wales’ International Opportunities Fund Bermudian choreographer and writer Krystal S. Lowe and Welsh singer/songwriter and producer Kizzy Crawford will build and deepen connections between the Bermudian and Welsh arts sectors.

“Led by Krystal S. Lowe and Kizzy Crawford partnering with the Bermuda Government’s Department of Culture and the National Dance Foundation of Bermuda ‘The History of Us | Ein Hanes Ni’ will be a celebration of shared cultural experiences between two nations thousands of miles apart.

“Over the course of one week Krystal and Kizzy will connect with Bermudian dancers, writers, musicians, artists, and members of the community – discussing how cultural identity impacts their artistic expression.

“Their time will be shared between a series of discussions at locations around the island, movement sessions at Bermuda Government’s Department of Culture ‘MakerSpace’ [a selection of free studio spaces for artists to use throughout the island], and jam sessions between Kizzy and local musicians. Alongside their time with Bermudian artists and members of the community, they will also spend a considerable amount of time exploring museums, galleries, cultural events, and the land itself.

“The History of Us | Ein Hanes Ni is a realisation of a 2021 Wales Arts International and Bermuda Civic Ballet funded research and development [R&D] project of the same title. Throughout the duration of the 2021 R&D project, a team of five artists [from Bermuda and Wales] led each other in ten dance sessions [through Welsh and English] centered around the connections between arts and culture and how they shaped their artistic development. The aims were to share the contrasts while highlighting the commonalities between experiences of dance in both cultures.
