Bermuda Swimmers Medal At Planet Swim
Bermuda’s swimming team impressed at the Planet Swim Summer Championships at the Planet Swim & Tennis Club in Ponte Vedra, Florida, at the weekend.
Among the highlights was the performance of the boys’ 400 metres medley relay team of Brian Desmond, Caleb Ingham, Logan Jones, and Gabriel Maranzana, who won the gold medal in the A Final.
Desmond, competing in the 15 and over boys’ category, won silver in the 100 backstroke and silver in the 100 freestyle.
Ingham, also competing in the 15 and over boys’ category, won bronze in the 50 and 100 freestyle.
Ben Smith, the Bermuda national swimming head coach, said the meet was an “amazing experience” for the team.
“The new Bermuda swim team kit was a hit for all swimmers and officials at the meet,” he said.
“The pink and blue were well represented with the medals, personal bests and record swims.
“The team had a great time and were so supportive for each other.
“This is what sport is about. Our university graduates showed their experience and shared their knowledge with the young swimmers that are following in the footsteps.
“Seeing young people show leadership, resilience and teamwork is what makes me proud as a coach.
“This meet was a success because 12 young people that have worked hard all season had this opportunity to represent Bermuda.”
