Finance Ministry Relaunches Trainee Programme
The Ministry of Finance is relaunching the Trainee Management Accountant Programme, which will begin this September.
A Government spokesperson said, “The Ministry of Finance is pleased to announce the return of the Government of Bermuda’s Trainee Management Accountant Programme, set to commence this September 2025.
“This three-year rotational training initiative is designed to support recent graduates holding a bachelor’s degree [or equivalent] in obtaining a professional accounting designation [such as US CPA, Canadian CPA or ACCA], while gaining meaningful, hands-on experience across multiple government departments under the guidance of the Accountant General’s Department.
“At the end of the programme, participants will be qualified accountants positioned to be considered for full-time employment in the Public Service.”
Head of the Public Service Cherie Whitter said, “The programme reflects Government’s commitment to investing in Bermudian talent and strengthening the financial capabilities of the Public Service.”
The Government spokesperson said, “Participants will rotate through various functional areas, acquiring core competencies in financial reporting, budgeting, auditing, internal controls, and tax compliance—all while progressing toward full registration with CPA Bermuda.”
Accountant General Dionne Morrison-Shakir said, “This programme is not just about developing accountants; it’s about nurturing future leaders in financial governance. We are equipping these trainees with the technical expertise, professional values, and real-world experience they need to thrive in the public sector.”
The Government spokesperson said, “In addition to technical training, the programme also supports academic progress by providing dedicated study time and allowances for exams, vacation, and professional development.
“The Government of Bermuda recognises that becoming a qualified accountant requires more than academic knowledge. It demands a blend of structured learning, ethical practice, and direct application. By embedding these principles into the Trainee Management Accountant Programme, the Ministry of Finance is creating a launchpad for graduates to build rewarding and impactful careers in the Public Service.
