MarketPlace’s Tahjae Welch has won the international FMI Store Manager Award, recognizing his outstanding leadership and dedication.

A spokesperson said, “The MarketPlace is thrilled to announce that Tahjae Welch, Store Manager of The Paget MarketPlace, was named a winner today in the prestigious FMI – The Food Industry Association 2025 Store Manager Awards. Mr. Welch won in Category D [International], a significant recognition that places him among the top store managers globally.

“This international award is a testament to Tahjae’s exceptional leadership, innovative approach, resilience, and dedication to both The MarketPlace and the Bermuda community. He was selected as the winner from an initial global pool of hundreds of entries. After a rigorous judging process, he was chosen as one of three international finalists before ultimately winning the top honor in his category during the live awards ceremony.

“FMI – The Food Industry Association, is an influential U.S. based organization dedicated to advancing a safer, healthier, and more efficient food supply for consumers. Their annual awards are highly regarded, recognizing individuals and companies that demonstrate excellence and innovation in food retail operations worldwide.

“Tahjae Welch’s journey with The MarketPlace is an inspiring Bermudian success story. He began his career with The MarketPlace in 2016 as a merchandiser and cashier at the Dollar Store straight out of high school. His dedication saw him quickly progress through roles such as Grocery Manager, Second Assistant Store Manager, and Assistant Store Manager.

“In 2024, Tahjae made history by becoming The MarketPlace’s youngest-ever Store Manager, taking the helm at The Paget MarketPlace – his own neighbourhood store. A graduate of the company’s “Pathways to Leadership” program, Tahjae has consistently demonstrated exceptional operational expertise, and under his guidance, the Paget MarketPlace has seen significant sales growth.”
